What's it worth?
How about a little help in establishing Luger value parameters?
I know what the top is. I know what the bottom is. But 75% of guns encountered are somewhere else. For example, does a mint all matching Erfurt rate more than a less than so DWM? Does a mint DWM with a mismatched firing pin rate more than a less than mint(75%) DWM with all matching? Does an Erfurt rate less than a DWM being equal in all other aspects? Does a Police gun rate more/less than an Army gun everything else equal? Does a less than mint all matching DWM rate with a matching magazine more/less than a same in mint without magazine? Where does a Thor restoration fit in? Does it matter if its matching or not? Suggestions? rk |
RK (haven't "chatted" with you for a long while!);
From what I see on gunboards, here and elsewhere, prices seem to be; 1. Highest for rare guns, ones you and I can't afford. 2. Then WW2, nazi era guns 3. Then WW1 era guns, with DWM's worth a bit more than erfurts 4. Police worth a bit more than other Weimar guns (the average joe calls them 1920's) 5. Weimar guns 6. "Low-End" collectables, i.e. ones that are not in the best of shape, but you feel bad parting them out 7. Shooters, ones that idiots screwed up, have bad pits, have been reblued 8. Not necessarilly less in value, I would say that Thor's and other restored guns sell between 3 and 4, but it is all in the eye of the beholder, Big Norm has regaled me with a story or two of buyers at auction who passed up a nice gun for a "pretty" one, even tho it had been reblued. Ed....what about Imperial era?...and I would swap 4 and 5 around....but then again its how you feel.

Thanks Ed, what got my attention was the request for a shooter Luger at $500 or so but then the 1913 Erfurt Thor Restoration asking price was $1000 (and well worth it), then two others in the $750 - $1200 range. I'm not including of course the Kriehhoffs, Artilleries, Persian, Aes, ect., just the military types one most likely would encounter an a shop or table.

Howard, I was lumping together the WW1 and Imperial, but obviously they are different. I would imagine that price fluctuates downward a bit as WW1 quality goes down and more were made.
As you said, all in the eye of the beholder <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> |
