How do you ship pistols
 

I've noticed in various places on the web people offering to ship pistols via the 2 day service from Fedex and UPS or USPS.

When you speak to each of those companies they both say they only accept pistols for overnight shipment.

The USPS only accept pistol shipments from FFL dealers.

What's peoples opinion on any liability you might assume by not following these rules ?

I ask as I have a modern pistol I'd like to ship for repair, and of course using the 2 day service saves a bunch of $'s. I'm concerned that by not following the rules if it's lost or damaged claiming the insurance might be a problem, and if the worst happened and it was stolen and used in a crime goodness knows where it would all end.

How do other non 01 FFL's deal with this matter ?
