Those little barrel/Frame alignment marks
Are properly termed "witness" marks, as they provide witness to the fact that the barrel and frame are intact and no movement has occurred.
Sorry, but I really grow weary of folks using a lot of words to describe something that has a name. This is back to the "Buy books, read them and do your homework!" mantra that I am accused of belaboring... Knowledge empowers; so does ignorance. Ignorance on your part empowers others to take advantage of you. Read and study and make field trips. Tom A. |
Not to mention similar marks on the top of the front sight/barrel to indicate factory sight in.

Hello Tom A.,
1. Thanks for setting me straight on the terminology of the "witness marks" ! I agree proper terms are important. I also think knowing the depth, width, aligment of the marks should be the "same" across the barrel and the frame. This is what I was trying to convey to Jim Elson... 2. Can you tell me what is proper : Take down lever or locking bolt ? I seem to recall reading "locking bolt" was used in the older books, but now the terminology has seemed to switch to "take down lever". Thanks in advance for your help !!!
