Suffix's
I was wondering if others have digital pictures of their suffix's? If I can get some from you, I have started a webpage that has suffixes on it. Provide me with a nice clear photo of the suffix, what year and type of gun it came from. If there is a suffix on the barrel or magazine, inlcude that also, and state it is a barrel or magazine.
I know that they look different, from different years, but here are three that I was able to take pictures of: A from a 1914 DWM http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/1914DWMA.jpg R from an Alphabet (1928) DWM http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/1928DWMR.jpg Y from a 1942 Banner http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/1941BannerY.jpg Ed |
Ed, that's a darned good idea! We have always looked at printed guides, but I have never seen a "photo" alphabet. Of course there will be some variations of the same letter, but hopefully eventually you can corral the majority of them. Perhaps folks could contribute good clear images, then they could be manipulated with a graphics program to make them all the correct relative size and made into a guide for beginners (and old fogies too). After that perhaps start compiling a photo guide for proof marks. Look out Costanzo, we have a new career in the making!

Thanks Ron, if people post here or send me pictures, I will size, then compile them into an alphabet sheet. If they could also say what year and who made the markings, it might make more sense.
I personnaly have trouble with some of the letters, and I thought this might be a good way to help me and others, actually see the letters. Ed |

Thanks!
Dwight, appreciate the pictures and text! thanks!! Ed |
Ed,
GREAT IDEA :) , and I also must concur with you that the maker and the presumed year of production must be used for identification of each photo, There should also be a division on the page between suffixes used on frames, barrels and magazines... otherwise it will just be a hodgepodge of photos. This could turn into a great library that would be unmatched by any current Luger reference book! You do the dirty work (thank God) and I will be glad to create a new "suffix" page to go under "technical information" to display your HTML pages and the photos... Just let me know when you have a "first draft" and we will put it up... you can always edit it to keep it current as photos are supplied... We could make it look something along the lines of the Rogues Gallery pages...multiple rows and columns and we can have one web page for each character that is linked from the 'master' page where you select the character you are looking for...I can send you the blank format to start with if you like. Let me know. |

Hi
Great topic. I have pics of my frame and the matching magazine, with the suffix e. http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/eframe.jpg G date S/42 marked Luger. http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/emagazine.jpg Matching magazine. Henrik Sommer Denmark |
Thanks Henrik;
As I get magazine or barrel suffixes, I will add them to another section. As I wouldn't want to hodge podge for ole John S :D {{Thanks Frank for e-mailing me those suffixes :) }} |
Yowwwza...! A terrific idea!!! I'll send mine up in a bit!
Good on you Ed..!!!! |
Thanks, I have had really nice response so far from this forum. Although just a smattering, if you count all the Lugers in this forum and others :D . Even if someone just has one suffix to add, that is great! Just e-mail them to the house :)
And all serial numbers will NOT show, just the suffix, :) {{and if you have a non-matching, all the better, because stamping / marking is stamping / marking and has the same descriptive value!!}} Ed mailto:66mustang@palouse.com66mustang@palouse.com</a> |

Well - I'd post the Kriegs - but "them damned Lugers ain't got no suffix thingys" :) :D
I'll try to post some others tomorrow for your collection, OK? Good thread Ed..!!! |
So, let me get some feedback on this: Suffixes Webpage
As I get more pictures, I will add them. Don't mind them from slightly different angles, but right now, I will post any pictures I get. I can place full name on the "thank you" at the bottom if you want, or pull it. I figure 5 or 6 of each suffix? Then will add the magazine and barrel pages. Suffixes Webpage Ed |
Ed, it looks great! You have obviously left room for growth in variations and the cataloging is aesthetic and functional... If it is no problem for you to host it, then it would be more convenient for you to keep it updated, but when you think that there are enough examples, and inputs start to slow down we can move the pages and associated graphics to the Lugerforum server at your convenience.
In the meantime, I will create a link on the Technical Info pages to your index to accompany the suffix information already there! It might be interesting to put one of those free counters on the page to see how many hits it gets. Keep up the good work! |
I cant see the pictures in your folder Ed.
