Any Mauser rifle fans ?
 

My lonely "42" code P.08 keeps company with a few Mauser rifles. If you click on the link, you'll see a WW1 German battle flag and some bolt guns marked "ich4" in the bottom right corner - these are my babies. Ichabod, I recently bought several russian capture 98k's. I really like these rifles.

One day when I become one of those 'dangerous' liberal professors I plan to secretly add some K98s and a Broomhandle to my collection. [img]smile.gif[/img] My lonely P-08 sits pining for others of its kind...of course I need a 30 caliber P-08 too and maybe save up for the 45 Krause gun too eh? [img]smile.gif[/img] So many guns so little time and money.

My P08 byf41 has some good company:
- K98k Mauser Oberndorf 1941 8x57 IS, 2nd Portuguese contract, with WaA markings
- Spanish 98k variant "Santa Barbara" .308 Win
- Swedish Mod. 96 rifle, 6.5x55, Oberndorf 1900
- FN M 30-11 sniper rifle, .308 Win, modified 98 bolt action
- to come in April: Gewehr 98, DWM 1908 Brasil, 7x57, w/ matching bayonet, sling and original sight-in target.
Could never have "too many" of them.

I've got a 1917 Mod 98 made by DWM with a long sawback butcher bayonet,is a S42 rebuild, looks great, also a 98K byf 44 with bayonet. I shot a 1" 5 round group with the 98K at 75yds a few months ago using Turkish milsurp ammo, very accurate. Not a toy by any means.

Good for you Terry. That is what counts. We get so preoccupied with condition and originality that we overlook the soul of the gun. Considering a weapon's history, regardless of condition and/or modification, if it brings you satisfaction and a smile to your face when you look at it, it is a fine gun - whether or not it blows your frock in the air or inflates your knickers.

Ed, thanks for the kind words [img]smile.gif[/img] ! Mark, there is such a thing as too many Soviet-capture K98ks, ya know ! You should vary your collection...say with a lovely infantry-unit marked 1891 Loewe Gew88 or a 1937 lion-crested VZ-24 rifle from MY collection [img]wink.gif[/img] .....I've got a c/r ffl ya know...seriously, all the Russian capture 98ks I've seen have been very nice. I WILL get one. tac, been there/done that. My bolo broom cost me $395 and I spent $100 having it's shot-out bore relined...still, I love it and it usually draws more comments and compliments than does my P.O8 [img]confused.gif[/img] . I can't tell you how many local gun guys have never seen or even heard of the broomhandle Mauser ! When they ask the caliber and I say, ".30 Mauser.", they get a glazed look in their eyes.

Ichabod, When I got my C&R I looked in Shotgun News and saw these rifles. Bought five. The idea is to pick the cream and then sell or trade the rest. I got S/42G, S/243G, S/147G,and a Standard Modell with Mauser banner and no date. Sold one S/42G. Having trouble deciding which to let go of.

Ichabod; Know anybody that can tell me about my Norway converted K-98 to 30-06?. It's a well done conversion. Bolt and reciever match on this 36 Mauser. Most other parts also. Off topic, however replies are appreciated. <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

Mauser rifles are great in all respects. I especially like the fact that excellent rifles can be had for very little $$$ because there were so many made.

I have a nice 98/29 Persian and a Yugo M48A that's pretty beaten up but shoots like a honey. I will be adding more for sure.

I love the K98k rifle! I have a DOT 44 and a BYF 43, and both are in approx. 97% condition. The Mauser came with the bayonet, frog, and 2 ammo pouches.

I also have one of the K98k Yugo reworks that is in 99% condition. All the German stamps have been removed and the Tito Stamp applied to the receiver, but it is 100% German mid war rifle with an almost mint bore. With my tired old eyes, the rifle will hold a 3-4" group at 200 yards with the origianl sights.

I have been shooting the FN manufactured 8mm Mauser ammo and it is as close to the original as you can get. The sights are dead on for 200 meters. Love those Mauser 98s.

Mark, I don't blame ya 4 wanting to keep 'em all! I wish my dou43 K98k was as nice as those Soviet-captures. G.W., These guys know E*V*E*R*Y*T*H*I*N*G about 98k's and I know they've had threads about those coveted Norwegian captures/ .30/06 conversions.You'll have to register to post but it's worth it. www.infantryrifles.com/ knows Mausers like the Luger Forum knows P.08s.

My four Lugers keep company with an Astra 600, broomhandle, and a Venezualan FN built Mauser in 7x57. An odd group but fun to shoot.

I like them! But then I like almost anything of
of quality. I currently have a 1908 DWM 7X57 from Brazil. It shoots 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds with the iron sites! It is a real class act.

I also like Enfields, own 5 of them. They are not as fine as Mausers but are really better weapons in a fight. Hard to argue with success!
