FRAME Differentials
 

Sometimes, I feel like these slight differences are driven into my head by seeing Luger after Luger until "I GET IT" Just noticed the small trianglar shaped flattened area just below the lanyard loop rectangle cut out gore area where the back flat area of the rear frame transitions into the rear grip strap area. Measured on a humped frame Mauser (WWII) this isosceles Triangle area measures 0.8" wide (base) by 0.3" height. Corresponding lengths from an Erfurt (WWI)measures 0.55" wide by 0.15" height. Visually the Mauser flat triangle is much bigger. Just an observation. Yes I know that Erfurt frame ALSO has tons of little crown over RCs on it too! Also have noticed that the receiver flutes on the Efurts are larger than those on Mauser or DWMS and the Erfurts don't have the beveled frame rails on the right rail as do the Mauser and DWM frames. Man.....I need to write this stuff down!!

these are the little details that an experienced professional restorer like Thor will notice in detecting restored or altered guns. I have a tough time with Kreighoffs. Probably because I mostly collect Imperial Era Lugers. But the restorer that I use can tell in a heartbeat if a Kreighoff has been restored or altered. Trust an experienced good restorer to evaluate a Luger because they DO see a lot of guns and pay attention to small details.
Ya Thor, pictures would help me understand what you are saying. I didn't understand what you said about the flutes on the Erfurt. The flat area under the lanyard loop on a Mauser seems to be more rounded and the Erfurt seems to be more pointed. The rails on the right side of a Mauser are beveled vs rounded on an Erfurt. I never noticed that. Did you notice that on the Mauser right rail, just under the toggle, the machine marks are perpendicular, but on an Erfurt they run parallel?
