Digital Camera
I'm considering an upgrade of my Sony digital camera. What's the best nonprofessional equipment available?
|
George, I can only speak from experience... we just bought a Nikon Coolpix 4300 and the first 30 photo tests have been quite pleasing...
Here is the best website I know for comparison of camera features and even example photos at available resolutions... http://www.imaging-resource.com/ |

George, I like my Fuji S602Z which offers fully manual operation and through-the-lens viewing just like an SLR camera. It also has a hot shoe for external flash units plus two degrees of close-up focusing. You can read the review at the site Luke has posted.

George -
Sony is currently introducing the replacement for the F707/717 digital camera. I believe it is called the 828 and has a much higher pixel count as well as a new look and a host of features. Believe it is under $1K. Quote from one of the posted reviews on this camera: "The Cybershot DSC-F828 was announced on 15th August, this new camera is very obviously a development of the DSC-F717 design. Just under since the F717 and Sony's flagship prosumer digital camera has certainly undergone a large number of changes, not least of which is the switch from the electronically zoomed five times lens of the F707/F717 to an all new mechanical zoom seven times lens with Carl Zeiss T* coating and a wide angle 28 mm equiv. capability. Sony has also chosen to go with their latest sensor, the all new eight megapixel four-color (RGBE) 2/3" type (8.8 x 6.6 mm) CCD. Ignoring all other changes this makes a formidable combination, a high quality mechanically linked zoom lens combined with the resolution of an eight megapixel CCD. This camera is arguably the most important prosumer digital camera this year." Luke |
George, I have and love my Nikon 775 Coolpic, although they have been replaced by newer models they are still available on line if you can find them. Used to be about $500 but now going for less than $200. On a 8 meg flashcard I have gotten 163 images and still had lots of space left using the low resolutin setting which gives great pics that are just right for posting or emailing. Has macro and telephoto and lots of other features, digital and optical viewing, everything I need or want and you can drop it in your shirt pocket. http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/1916DWM.JPG

Nikon Coolpic 5700 is a wonderful camera. I consider it the best non-professional camera. Makes a pro out of anyone with a digit.
