barrel frosting

I am interested in the terminology used to describe the condition of a Luger barrel. Specifically the terms frosting and darkened barrel. I do not understand the terms, how and why they are used and in what specific context. I thought there were worn and new barrels, I do understand these terms. Can anyone describe to me the meaning of the terms frosting and darkened when used to describe the condition of a Luger barrel?

it really means degrees of pitting, always sounds better "frosting" then pitting. A dark barrel is a rusted/warn barrel...

Craig,
* As an avowed, card carrying Bore Baby, I can confidently explain the above terms as 5% & 10% off the normal fair market value.
* When the same condition appears on the outside of the pistol, the terms sometimes used are "dull" and "stored in a holster" finish.
* As PL rightfully points out, it is a matter of degree. Sort of like rash, chicken pox, leprosy, and cancer.
Respectfully,
Bob
