Has Mr. McTague passed away ?

I do not know him or have never met him. But there is a note in Jan Still's book on Imperial Lugers at the bottom of page 92 that he assessed a 1915 Erfurt LP-08 luger (which is a piece surrounded by controversy) and considered it original and correct. Harry passed away several years ago , most of the oldtimers like myself knew him , he had about 22 or 25 lugers mostly artillary peices but he had a long barrel i really wanted. Asfor as i know his wife still has his collection, please let me know you here of his collection for sale.

Sorry to hear about a collector's passing...

I would hope his wife knows the value of his collection and when she is ready to let those pieces go, she would get a fair market price for the lugers.

I am beginning to think an old family friend was smart...during his last 2-3 years (unknown to his family), the old collector started selling off his pieces to make sure they went to "good homes"...(i.e. other collectors rather than just to some dealer). Money went into the bank and other investments...so after his passing, his family would not be taken advantageous of when trying to sell off the guns and not know their true value. When he passed, the family was in "shock" to realize the guns were "missing" and then were equally shocked when they learned what funds he had left them...

Something some of us younger collectors should start thinking about now...while we still have our faculties... :D

Yes, I agree Pete, if the inheritors of our guns, doesn't appreciate or care about them, then who knows where they will end up?

And to add to what you said, I heard a story a year or so ago, guy kept meticulous records, but didn't want his wife to find out about how much he REALLY spent, so his records had the value cut in half. Of course when he died unexpectedly, all his guns were sold at half their worth...
