luger not locking open after last round
 

hey guys just got back from the range again. i have a 70's mauser 7.65mm 6" barreled luger. i have the factory mag and a mec-gar mag for it and after the last round the receiver still closes. being kinda a newbie to this gun i was wondering if there is anything in particular i should look at tonight when i get off of work.

another thing, my magazine release button doesn't feel very "springy" and the magazine doesn't really eject or some loose at all, i just have to push in the button and remove the mag with my fingers.

any suggestions/tips/fixes for either of these problems will of course be greatly appreciated.

Things to look for:

Check the edges of the front of the holdopen and see if it is burred.

Check the notch on the bottom of the breechbolt that is caught by the holdopen and see if it has burrs.

remove the grips...(and with the weapon unloaded naturally) does the bolt lock back on an empty magazine? Does it do it consistently?

The holdopen action is a function of the pressure of the magazine loading button on the holdopen... check for freedom of movement of the holdopen.

Does the magazine drop free when the mag button is pushed and the grips have been removed? If it does, then either the inside of the grips are touching the magazine or your grip screws are too long and are touching the magazine when tightened down.

If these suggestions don't pan out, let me know and I'll open some memory files that haven't been used in years :D and see if I can come up with some other reason.

Regarding the spongyness of the mag release button. Does it feel this way with the grips removed?

kinda getting off the main subject i would like to add that using a loading tool(came in the mail yesterday) makes it much more enjoyable to shoot these guns. not having bleeding thumbs and skin flying everywhere each time you reload a mag. is a good thing :) .

i know this may sound crazy but i double checked the parts diagram here and on marstar and it does not appear that there is a holdopen on this gun lol. which may explain why nothing is being held open. i see the notch in the top of the fram for it to go and there is nothing there.

the mags do drop freely with the grips removed however. not having a luger or any real pics to compare to is kinda putting me in a bind.

still shoots fun so thats all i'm really concerned about at this time. guess i may need to hook up with roadkill and have him take a gander at my piece.

Golly, that is probably the reason the holdopen does not work. Gun Parts Corp. (www.gunpartscorp.com) shows them in the catalog for $42 including the spring.

great, more expenses just what i needed. i just burned 75 bucks for a navy holster, the ammo makes my 45acp costs look like i'm shooting .22lr. crikey i can't win. at least it shoots and it brings me great joy and happiness to do that so its not all that bad i guess.

You will need the holdopen and the spring! I would highly recommend that you contact Tom Heller for these parts, His phone number is 636-447-3006 or e-mail at <hellerarms@webtv.net>.

I have bought the parts from Gun Parts and they are not good quality. The spring is not "springy" and the holdopen will require fitting. Tom can take care of you and give you quality parts.
