Ebbinkbay
I'm going to get a Ford Pinto. Paint DWM on the roof. Put a Ser# ,suffix and proof marks on it. Then put it on ebay, just to see if Pete will make a bid on it. :D
Ron No offense Pete. Just shakin' your tree. |
Ron,
just throw a ford catalog in the trunk so that you can say that it comes with a matching magazine. That should double the price. Big Norm |
Norm, That's great! Wish I have thought of that.
 Ron |
Ron, you don't want Pete calling you a fraud on a public forum! Pete is very acute on what is and what isn't, and we all know that DWM was engraved (in gold if it's a real one) never "painted", re: the Pinto roof variation.
Oh he'd bust you in a heartbeat... best to run the auction under Ted's name or something... Frank H. (moving out of L.A.) |
Ron, you will also need to change out the door handles and make them out of wood and checker them, plus add the serial number on them. That way you could also list it as having matching " wooden grips". :D

Lost out on this Portuguese Luger lanyard on the Germany e-Bay site...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEDW:IT Funny...it did not show up when you did a search for the words "luger" or "pistolentasche"... I was hoping this was a sleeper and most folks woud miss it...saw that Paolo P. from Europe and I both lost out to a last minute bidder... Regards, Pete... |
Ron, we're out in high water man, this Pete guy doesn't blink, doesn't miss a detail!
I don't think we can turn a profit on that Pinto... Frank H. (Moving to Oregon in 8 days, and counting) |
Hey Pete... I couldn't find an online translator that could translate the word "Fangriemen"
Anyone got a definition? |
Fang is capture, thus Fangenschnurr is an aigulette(?) or military cord to secure a helmet. The military usage of Riemen is a rifle sling.
Fangriemen my be strictly a military term or, it may be incorrect. The english word lanyard would translate as Schlinge I believe. |
Frank, Had to give up on the Pinto idea. Could'nt find one that has'nt blown-up.
I hope you've gotten the pontoons mounted on your vehicles. You'll be getting here just in time for the rain. It'll only rain until June or July though. About time! The webs between my toes are starting to crack. :D Ron |
Ron
What do you mean by RAIN? It has been snowing at work. Russ |
I heard that the State of Alabama is relocating the USS Alabama from Mobile to a new park location in Huntsville this week.
|
Hey Ron and Frank H,
No offense taken...I was just sitting back seeing how far the "two of youtz" would take the Pinto thing...quite creative stuff. Regards, Pete... |
yupper, Pete can take ribbin! I called him a "bad boy" the other day, he is probably wearin stuff from the "hood" by now, bought it from e-bay I bet !! :D
:D |
Haha,
Now for the 'useless info on the side' bit. There is actually a car that comes with a correct DWM logo. The 1960's DWM-built Amphicar has the official DWM-logo on the dashboard. The scrolled DWM logo was never registered by DWM, strangely enough. http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/amphicar.jpg |
DOWN, Pete, DOWN!!!!
|
Hi Gerben and Ron,
Actually, my family had one in the late 1960's...here in the USA...but it was called a "DKW"...ours was a convertible model...if I recall. My brother and I took it out on the beach at Hermosa beach and we found out the door seals were not intact, got very wet, and quickly made it back to shore. It had a switch or lever to connect the drive train to a small impeller at the rear bumper...it floated real well. Regards, Pete... |
Pete,
May well be. DKW later became part of Audi and it's possible that some versions of the Amphicar were marketed by other agents. Was it an all-matching one with correct strawed parts? :D |
Do a Google search on Amphicar and you will find several site that specialize in these cars... it was a very informative search...
|
John,
Indeed it is. I found it quite surprising how wellspread DWM's interests were when I first decided to take a closer look at the company's past. |
