Charlie
Guys,
I may be out of the shooting business. We spend 3 months in WV each summer and 9 months in the town of Punta Gorda. Have you seen the TV? Charlie's center was within 5 miles of my house on Friday the 13th. My FL neighbor tells me the house is damaged (roof holes, garage door, window). My house checker says one end of the roof has lifted 2 feet. I guess I gotta go check and see what is left. I've probably got a lot of wet guns. Hope they're not as bad as those on the rusty gun thread. I may be off the forum for quite awhile beginning about Monday. In the meantime, good shooting and collecting. |
AGE, I wish you and your friends the best. My family property was only slightly damaged, a few trees and other landscaping. Our neighbors were not so fortunate. I'm a Vol. Fireman (Ret.some of our men are on the way down there. They have chain saws and electrical, plus gas and water experience. We are there to help and on our way. We will report to FEMA...G.W.GILL N.V.F.D.

Al,
If you need anything when you get down here just let me know |
Have a safe trip Al...We will keep you and your Florida neighbors in our prayers...
Not sure if you have permanent storage at your WV summer place, but if you need a safe haven for your guns till the Florida situation is stable, they are welcome here at my place in VA until you can provide your own safe and dry location for them... |
Age, I'm in Huntsville Al, if you need to store anything I also have room. You can swing by on the way backup the coast.

Interested friends,
Thanks so much for being interested in how we made out in PG during the hurricane. We were in WV for the summer when Charlie hit PG. Our house was not so lucky. Charlie broke 2 windows, blew off most of our roof tile and 4 pieces of plywood allowing water into most of the ceilings, dropping it in 4 places (Francis did a lot more water damage). He also destroyed our garage door and dropped the garage ceiling onto our Ford. We went down to PG right away and managed to get our furniture (mostly OK) moved out before Francis and into a rental house. We scurried around a lot to meet with our insurance adjuster, find a repair contractor, locate a rental house, get a mover, pack stuff, survive Francis, etc. but we made it. We are now back in WV partly to escape Ivan and get out of the battle zone but also because Joy has a 50th high school reunion this month. We are tired but in good health. We don't know how this mess will turn out, but with everybody's prayers we are confident things will work out OK for us. Based on the work our house needs and the number of damaged houses in PG we expect it to be 6-12 months before it will be rebuilt. We will be in FL (the rental is north of PG) for the winter and in PG whenever necessary to watch over the house rebuilding. My guns were fine, no problems there. Hope the financial situation lets me keep them. Al |
Al, Glad to hear the rest of the story...Something like that must be a real trial. Good luck my Friend. Jerry Burney

Good to hear you're okay :)

Ditto Al, we've been praying for you and will continue to do so...
Glad the guns are okay and hope you won't have to sell them... Were you fortunate enough to be covered by insurance? |
John,
Yes, we have insurance. Hopefully that will cover most of the financial stuff. We'll see. Anyway, we still have a lot of hoops to jump through and it will be awhile before we know what the word normal means. |
