Another Movie with a Luger

This past weekend I picked up a movie called "The Young Lions". It stared Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Dean Martin. This movie was pretty good. There was a scene that showed the Luger used by Brando and another scene showing a P38 used by his superior. Any way I thought this movie should be added to the list of movies that was created. Thor I hope you do not mind but I copied part of your post with the list that you had created. I think that this would be something we could have linked sometime and kept on permanent. What do you think John? Any way here is the list that Thor created:

Has anybody seen a movie lately with Lugers that could be added to this list?
Sid.

Sid,

If my memory serves me at all I believe Omar Sheriff carried a luger in the movie Lawrence Of Arabia. I don't know if I remember seeing the pistol but he certainly was wearing a luger holster.
The list is quite interesting!

Add "The Blues Brothers".

Might also add that "Charade" starts with the best looking Luger squirt gun I've ever seen. I've always wanted one!!!

Jerry Harris 11-13-2003 11:11 PM

In "Watch on the Rhine" (1943) Bette Davis's screen husband (Paul Lukas) carries a Luger in his briefcase. It is shown several times and used to dispatch a pro-Nazi blackmailer (George Colouris) near the end of the film.

Add "The Bulletproof Monk" to the list of movies with a Luger in it. They show it working in semi-slow motion so you see the action function.

Sid can you suggest me a movie where it is possible to clearly see a LP08.
Thank you.
Mauro

I believe that there was an LP-08 depicted in one of the original black & white "charlie chan" movies, but I don't remember the name of it... perhaps one of the old movie buffs in this crowd knows the name of it.

Mauro,

If I remember correctly, an LP-08 appears in "The Land That Time Forgot".

Mauro, I have yet to see a LP-08 in any movies that I have seen. Hopefully some of our other members may have seen one in at one time or another.

I will try to maintain a list in Word of all the movies that I posted here earlier. If anyone has any additions they would like to add, please send me an email or a PM and I will add it to the list.

Sid.

I believe an LP-08 was shown in the movie "Guns Of Navarone". I don't know why since it was 2WK movie!

I recently watched League of Extordinary Gentelmen. In one scene Captian Nimo used a gold plated luger. another scene his men seemed to be using chrome plated sten guns with an odd stock.

Add a relatively obscure 1970 movie to the list:

Puppet on a Chain

Good luger presence in the final scenes.

The mini-series "Anzacs" (circa 1984?) shows a good scene where the character Pat Cleary (played by Paul Hogan) returns to the Australian lines following a sucessful "ratting" trip with a group of German prisoners being herded home using a LP08.

John Sabato 12-23-2003 11:03 AM

I don't know that this series was ever broadcast here in the U.S. John... was it good? Is it available on tape or DVD?

Stevie 12-23-2003 08:15 PM

Captain Correlli's Mandolin , good movie, kind of a "chick flick" on cable and satellite as we speak. Nicholes Cage and Penelope Cruz. German officer caps a few recently machineguned Italian POW's with a Luger. Lots of Italian guns. More action than the title would imply.

HALLS OF MONTEZUMA - 1950 film staring Richard Widmark as Lieutenant Anderson the Platoon Leader.
Takes place on some un-named Pacific Island held by the Japanese.
One of the members of the platoon Pvt. "Pretty Boy" Riley played by actor Skip Homeier has a Luger he owned in civilian life (as shown in flashbacks) that he brought with him. He keeps twirling it much to the displeasure of Pvt. Slattery played by actor Bert Freed.
In the scene where they are in a foxhole together Slattery grabs the Luger and throws it out in the killing zone in front of the position
and Pretty Boy goes nuts.

Happy Holidays all
Mike

JS -
Haven't seen it in about fifteen years (on TV), but I believe it may have been released on video.

For those unfamiliar with the term, “ratting” is Australian army slang for a visit to the “other guys” position. A ratting trip is usually nocturnal in nature, and always conducted with mischievous intent.

Merry Christmas to all

Done some sniffing, yes ANZACS is available on DVD. Don't know who'd stock it over your way though. Wasn't a bad series at all!

Big Norm 01-02-2004 02:41 AM

The movie "COBB" has a LP-08 in it briefly. Ty Cobb (a legendary baseball player) is riding in a car and he brings out an artillery Luger. It not seen in the rest of the movie.
