Commemorative/commercial Luger
 

I came across what may be a commemorative or commercial luger (no special plate on it). It is a 9mm Mauser stamped by Interarms. It appears black, American Eagle over the chamber, 6" barrel, has a grip safety and appears near unfired. What would a high and low estimate be on one of these?

This is one of the last Commercially manufactured by Mauser lugers and they were made in the '70s.

I have seen them go from $600 to 900 dollars new in the box over the last couple of years... more if they were a special commemorative like a Navy or Artillery Model... or one of many others like Russian...

Tom Heller (Lugerdoc) may even have a couple of these new in his inventory...

The owner is asking $800. I don't know how much room there is to negotiate. I would think $650-700 is a fair price (no box). It would be like a super-grade shooter. The pistol is on consignment at a shop.

From what I've seen, the $800 is in the ballpark. Good luck on getting it down much below that; if you can get him to take $750--grab it.

I have few Commemorative Mauser Parabellum in my collection. Only to clarify a point:

At the beginning of '70, Mauser made two series of Parabellum the commercial one and the commemorative one.

The commercial one have the following serial numbers:

10.00xxxx for .30 Luger caliber
11.00xxxx for 9mm Parabellum

The commemoratives are now rare and they have a special serial number. Usually the commemorative model have been made in 250 exemplars (even if there are very rare exceptions with commercial serial number).

Concerning the commercial model two types were done:
The 29/70 model similar to the Swiss 1929 model (Mauser bought all tools from Berna arsenal), and the 06/73 model similar to the 1906 model.

It is definitely the 11.00xxxx variety, non-commemorative, but I am unsure of which model, 29/70 or 06/73. I would imagine the second set of numbers on the serial designation is the year of production? I will research the two different models and find out which it is.

Jack the four digits are the "real" serial number. The last two digit of the year are placed on the left of the pistol (i.e. 73 for 1973).
The year is not a good parameter to know the model. In fact both models were produced in parallel starting from 1973. In the picture attached the 29/70 model manual.
