Hello:

I wounder if someone knows if dry firing an Luger P08 is at all harmful to the mechanism or fireing pin
My first Luger (commercial variant) was purchased a month ago so I am not familiar with this arm yet,only familiar with modern pistoles, but the toggel action just seems to be fragile to me upon inspection. Could anyone answer the above question or relay to me, any practices besides the obvious ones for most firearms that are detremental to the P08s' action

Jim, dry firing most weapons is not a good idea. I have done it on occassion, although I have ehad many stories of the time they did it and broke a firing pin.

There are snap caps they sell that deaden the impact (look like cartridges, but are rubber on the end). Still many say that the force of the firing pin striking whatever is bad for it.

I'll second Ed, use a snap cap. It's not nice to let the action slam shut on an empty chamber either.

Make your own snap-cap! Use a new or resized case and put silicon rubber in the primer hole. When it's dry, trim the excess and you have a snap-cap good for hundreds of snaps.
