I am new to the Luger, and I need HELP!!!!
 

Here is the story in a nutshell. About 5 years ago a woman I now live with purchased a luger form an WWII veteran. Later inspecting the gun, she found that it was in VERY good condition. It was brought onto american soil by an army man named SGT.John T. Butts. I inspected the gun last night....it is in near perfect condition. There is no damage to the gun. A little bluing wear from 50+ years in the original holster. It also has the original contraband papers. The pistol is grease plugged. All of the serial numbers match. There are sevral Nazi symbols on the gun itself. It also has what seems to be mother of pearl grips?!? What we are trying to do is to gain information on the gun itself. Does anyone know what steps we might take? how to trace serial numbers? any information would be most appreciated.

using the identification sheets there, record all the information about the pistol.

post that information here under the appropriate forum category and someone who is knowledgable about that type of Luger will reply with information about your gun.

To get started the date of manufacture is over the chamber and the complete serial number is located on the front of the grip frame under the barrel... the complete serial number may include a small script letter suffix under the number... this letter is very important to the identification of your Luger and is part of the serial number.

If you have a digital camera and can post some jpeg photos, our many resident luger experts can give you more definitive info. on your luger as well... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Wm. Pete Ebbink is right... definitely post photographs if you can because condition is very subjective... Good closeup photos can be of great help in determining the condition and value of your Luger.

BTW, there must be a real good story about your choice of username... how about filling us in?

I don't know the sideplate looks a bit funny? But maybe just the angle?

as for my user name.... phew..that is a long story. My grandfather on my fathers side gave me the name many years ago. He said that I reminded him of a friend from WWII. He said it was a code name, but he passed before He told me the story.

8.Thumb Saftey: Safe in back position. The word GESICHERT is visable when saftey is on.
9.Markings: Marking# 46 on left side under chamber inscription. Serial number 5735, small letter o under serial number.
10.Barrel Length: 3 1/4 inches.
11.Markings on left side of extractor: Small eagle
(feathers pointing downward)
12.Descriptions of Front and Rear Sights: open sights.
13.Magazine and Bottom Plug Markings: 4497 and the letter B

Percentage on remailing bluing: 95%
Percentage of straw colored finish on parts: none?
Condition of bore: excellent
Condition of grips: excellent
Matching serial numbers: all yes
Correct matching magazines: no
Accessories: original holster, and contraband papers from WWII.

Ill need to stop by the local Kinkos, but there is no problem there.
