Luger racks for a safe.....
 

Quick question.......

Last week I spent a few hours doing my damnedest to make some small racks for my safe. Frankly, I got sick of trying to organize what was what - so I made two racks. The problem is, my safe shelves are pretty small (hmmm - actually the safe seems to be getting smaller as my collection grows??).

Anyway - below is one of the racks I made - BUT does anyone know WHO MIGHT MAKE THESE so I can buy a few more (I need more then a few actually). The overall length can not be more then 15.5" and I'd like a single rack to hold 8 Lugers (see the second photo to give an idea of spacing). Also - a "lock-in" would be really neat (On mine - I made a piece that uses the mag to lock it down and flat, and as well - where the frame/barrel "ride" on the top piece it's routered out - to prevent the Luger flopping "side-to-side" - so it "locks in", if you see what I mean?)....

Since I'd rather buy these for a reasonable price - rather then make more - any suggestions? Anyone make these commercially??

John, got ya covered, this place makes some real nice ones, I can personally recommend them as I have bought two of them, the single and the 10 Luger stand. They are attractive and well built and the 10 Luger stand goes into my safe very nicely.

Great bunch of Lugers there, why so many of the same kind, you need to get a little variety in your collection. I have a mismatched DWM I'll trade you for one of those lookalikes!

First - seriously Herb.... (Before Ed and I hi-jack my own thread!! :D ) My thanks for that link! I noticed they do "custom" sizes - which is exactly what I'm looking for, as the anything over 16" won't go into the shelves - and I need a total 8-10 racks....

LOL!!!!! Yep - them luggers is just a few of my "Navy Luggers" with the anchor. I have some (not in a rack yet) that have German Feldmarschall "Deutsche Wilheim Maschall's" initials inscribed on the top. Not as fancy as my racks of Navy lugguers, but they shoot pretty well all the same... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

As for the Mouser Luggers I have - I think those are the ones G.T. and Frank were talking about in some other thread?? I think G.T. ran over a few though?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Now - if Jen would only allow me to display them where I took this picture of this set/rack - I'd be happy..! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I hope you all enjoy the flower-imprinted cover we have for a bedspread.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> When I either buy/make some more racks (thanks again Herb - and I'm still thinking about your "trade" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ), I'll try to post a "group photo" of a few of these and a few more.

Honestly - to your point - I wish there was a safe way to put my collection on permanent display in my house - as I kind'a enjoy just looking at them, too....

Frankly and unfortunately I think the only way you can "safely" display them in your house would be to make yourself a "shattuck" style screensaver program that does a slide show...

My approach to being able to look at my Lugers in display cases isn't the solution for everyone. In my former house and in the new house I am building, part of the structure is a walk-in vault. The walls and ceiling are reinforced concrete and I am installing a Fort Knox vault door. The cost of building the vault is amortized over a few years by not having to insure the collection , and it is a lot more fun. The vault and a good alarm system beats having to cram the guns in a safe and not being able to enjoy them in the open.

I display 'em and lock them in a safe when gone for more than a day. Besides, they are in a dry basement, with three guard dogs, and four guard cats :D

John, if you want a safe way to openly display all of them move to central Utah. Most of the locals don't even bother locking thier vehicles or houses, I do though, having lived in Kalifornia for 27 years I can't get out of the habit.

My thanks!!! Honestly - Ron - I'd never thought about making a walk-in safe - but then again - my house has a celler, and being built about 1890, not quite certain it could withstand the weight of a vault door - much less all the reinforced concrete :) It leans a little already..!! :D

I thought both Porter and Rockwell made power tools, which Jen doesn't allow me to use anyway - fearing the destruction I do with any powered device..??!!! Hey Ron,

Since money is no object for the Wood vault, you might want to look at a FM-200 fire suppression system...it is what is replacing Halon in the industry...

They make small systems in the $ 3-4K price range that are ideal for valuables vaults.

While you are at it, drop in some A/C ventilation, a hi-speed Internet connection, workdesk, small refrigerator,etc. You would only need to come out for food and nature calls...

p.s. You might consider an inward-swing door...If the vault serves as your "shelter" in tornado events, you and yours could still swing the door in and dig yourselves out if the house came down around the vault.

The vault is ducted for heating and cooling, a wireless LAN takes care of the internet connection, I have a little alcove/gathering area outside the vault for a library table/desk, book collection and refrig. I was considering an inward swinging door, but the vault is not that large and I would rather have the inside wall space for displays. Tornados are not unheard of in this part of the country, but they are very very rare. I think I will run the risk and pass on the fire suppression system.

Just outside the alcove is my workshop and garage for the '30 Model A Ford Sport Coupe. Is this a dream home or what!
