back from the range for the first time
 

edit: just wanted to clarify i want to the range for the first time to shoot the luger. i go to the range all the time to shoot my kimber :)
what a fun gun. i can tell this is going to be a love hate relationship though. when it was shooting it was like an orgasm in my hand. but i had some feeding problems. mainly me not snapping the receiver back quick enough. it loaded fine about 80% of the time. a couple things i noticed though. the feedramp could use some polishing though, just doesn't seem to be up to the quality like the feed ramp on my 1911 kimber custom target is. firing it though was beautiful it was a really really smooth gun, loved the action, great sound, easy trigger pull. i'm sure most of the innacuracies are with me and not the gun. just too many variables this first time out to really concentrate on accuracy. i was just trying to enjoy it, get used to it and make the pain in my thumbs go away lol

1. i could only get 5-6 rounds in the magazine. i have to giant blisters on my thumb from trying to push the thumb thing down on the mag. i couldn't just load one after another without pushing down on this. i never had a jam during firing though. it was always just trying to get that first damn round chambered.

2. is the receiver supposed to lock up after the last shot? because after the last round was fired the receiver would close like it had chambered another round.

i shot 50 rds of winchester at 25' and 50rds of some other stuff in a yellow box that looked older than dirt at 50'. the gun was very accruate. i'm sure i could have deon a lot better. but it was new and i was cussing my thumbs with no skin most of the time.

Hey Justin, your sore thumbs are exactly why the Germans designed the "Loading Tool". You might get one!!! It'll save your thumbs a bunch of discomfort!!!

You didn't tell us what Luger you have. The early ones didn't have a holdopen device. If you have one, it could be the button on the magazine didn't engage the lever to actuate it. It sounds like the spring is strong enough, from the sore thumb. To check the magazine function, remove the top section and insert an empty magazine. Observe the hold open to see if it actuates. If it doesn't try a different magazine.

If you didn't have any trouble firing the pistol, only chambering the first round, sounds like you were babying the toggle action. Pull it all the way back and let it snap closed.

its a 70's mauser 30luger :) . it was in the other thread i started.

ahhh i may have to look into this "loading tool" you speak of. how much and where can i pick one up. this sounds like something i need lol.

yeah i was babying the toggle action i guess. when i'd pull back and snap it all would be well. sometimes it would slip cause of the thumbs lol. i've got two giant blisters now.

Justin, the tools are on the auction sites all the time. I picked up several from Marstars, Canada several years back. I am pretty sure some of the other parts houses have them as well. Good Luck and I hope your blisters heal soon!!

Justin, I have several types of luger mag loading tools available: Mauser banner marked (correct for your 1970s Parabellum) or original DWMs @$25 each and post WW2 DDR ones made on the WW2 KH machinery @$15 or 2 for $25. TH

Justin, I have a love/hate relationship with a couple of my shooters also. Each seems to like certain magazines more than the others!

But the feel of a Luger, besides the looks and questions if you go to public range, :)
