Sight adjustment tool - for what gun?

Gentlemen,

I know this is slightly off-topic, but I trust that somebody on this board may be able to help me. I've had this tool in my possession for quite a few years but I've never been able to figure out what gun it is intended for:

Suggestions are very welcome!

Balder, I am unsure? I moved this to the open discussion, since it is unknown if this is for a military luger...

It appears to be for adjusting the front sight of a pistol, but I am not if it is for a Luger pistol.

Even though I can't document reference it's origin, I believe this to be a front sight adjustment jig... for K98 type Mauser rifles, or perhaps one of the WW2 heavy machine guns like the MG34 or MG42.

In practice, the opening would be lowered over the front sight base from the top and the screw device would be used to drift the sight either right or left.

Balder, please check the fit of the rectangular opening over a standard WW2 type Mauser front sight base... and let us know how it fits please.

Gentlemen,

I'm sorry for not posting all relevant information right away. It does fit the Mauser front sight, I've used it several times for that purpose. What I do not understand is why is is so different from the "regular" tool. Also, its finish is rather rough for a German tool and I've never encountered these things without blueing. The St.G 40H marking is also a mystery.

Regards,

Balder

StG points towards "Sturmgewehr".
Maybe for a StG 44 ?

Morgan,

Check out this web site, "click" on the word "Kornschieber"...

For P-08's only, though...not the 7,65 mm Lugers.

LF member, Guisan, posted this info a while back.
