A very newbiew question

When I was much younger, I always wanted a Luger... and now I'm older,
I've cliimbed the socio-economic ladder a bit, and the desire has been
rekindled!

However, I know very little about guns. I plan on taking a safety
course. I don't hunt, and i don't want one for 'protection'. I want
one as a collector's piece and to take on the weekends to shoot.

There is a mind-numbing amount of confusing info. about lugers out
there. Pre-war, post-war, Luger, Mauser... replica..
Geez. I'm just confused.

I don't think I need a mint WWII version... I think I'd be happy with
a modern replica if the quality is good.

Anyone recommend anything? Just your thoughts would be great!

Hi Jon, if you are going to use it as a shooter, then I would consider a Mauser, because of the material quality. You will probably pay about the same price for a post war 1970's Mauser as you would for a WW2 version. I would opt for the WW2 variety because of it's historical value! My 2�¢'s worth.

I suggest to you a Mauser Parabellum (Interarms). They are the last real Parabellum produced by Mauser in the 1970-1986 epoch. The quality is very good.
If you want to spend more you can buy a commemorative model. In fact, in that period Mauser produced commemorative models to celebrate the most important contracts. Only 250 pistols have been produced for each commemorative model. In the attached files my Bulgarian commemorative.

WWII Mauser gets my vote as well.

Good shooters are the reworked P08s that showed up the last decade.

My favorite shooters are a VoPo Mauser/DWM mix and a reworked 1937 S/42 with all small parts + barrel replaced.

Frankonia, Germany did a number of these reworks and they still pop up now and then. Roughly at the price of an Orimar Stainless.
