Magazine disassembly
 

Hi everyone!

Still new to owning a Luger, I was wondering whether or not P08 magazines could be disassbled for cleaning or spring replacement. I have two commercial mags, one a new Mec-Gar with a plastic plug, the other one of undermined origine with an aluminum plug. I haven't had any luck finding any references online, so thought I'd post the question here.

If so, would someone kindly describe the procedure?

Afternoon! Answer is yes, place magazine on flat surface and supported so magazine well is level and the bottom is about 1/2" above flat surface.
This gives room for the pin to come out. Look carefully at magazine bottom. There is a pin that holds bottom in place. I use a nail punch and a small hammer to tap out pin. Use a little WD40 or penetrating oil to loosen pin if necessary, pay attention to pin removal so it can go back in same way. Bottom will slide then off, both pin and bottom will be difficult the first time, cleaning both will make it easier. Remove spring and follower, also watching how they came out. You can put them back in wrong. And don't use too much force. Better to let the penetrating oil work than to bust something.

Putting the pin back in is the hard problem. I have seen many a good magazine buggered up in attempting to do it!

If the problem Toggletop refers to happens, and it most likely will, take a very small finishing nail and insert it through the magazine side, bottom, & out the other side to align the holes. Leave it there. If pin still won't go in, take emery cloth or fine sandpaper and polish the end of the pin which will be inserted. Keep on polishing until it will go in, leave the nail in and push it out with the pin. This keeps everything aligned.

Magazine button???
 

Hello, my first post here.

I can remove the base by pushing up on the spring and then inserting a punch through the mag holes. This takes the pressure off the base and pin can be removed easily.
My question is, how is the follower button held in place?? Pappy

The follower button is staked in through the hole near the bottom of the magazine body on the opposite side from the follower button. Removing the button requires that it be driven out with a punch through this hole. Unless the magazine body is properly supported it is very easy to bend or dent the magazine. Reinstalling the button is accomplised by re-staking it through the same hole, again with the same risk. Unless there is a pressing need to remove the follower button, it is best to leave it alone.
