Police Muzzle Cover

Ok folks, this is the first time I have seen anything like this. There is a muzzle cover up for bid on ebay. Here is a link to the page so you can check it out.

Can anyone please give me more information on this. What was its purpose. Thanks.

Sid.

Hey Strider,

Apparently - as I understand it - they were used to prevent the cleaning rod from harming the crown of the barrel... Of course - I have been known to be wrong before - so if I am this time - I'm as certain someone will post the right answer.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Best to you,

John D.

JD, correct, police barrel crown protection, reference Still's Weimar Lugers, page 185.

Thanks for the reply guys. It is an interesting piece. I was wondering about the marking next to the P08. Can anyone give me more info on what it is and from what time period?
Thanks. I appreciate it.

Sid.
