What A Sales Pitch...
Take a look at the following sales pitch for a luger on one of the Internet sites...
And then he does not offer any photos...?!! Here is the ad for a $ 2,200.00 (sorry, $ 2,500.00) luger : " SS marked - Deathshead with runes on barrel on right side of serial number #9714. Police model cut and drilled for sear safety (removed). 95% bluing, some slight holster wear. Matching magazine marked #2. Capture papers and provenance. No photo availab " Would appreciate some technical feedback about the gun... |
Pete,
I don't have any info, but I do have a comment! It seems odd that He doesn't have photos of this "Rare" gun! If I had an SS marked gun I was wishing to sell,.. I'd have photos thats for sure! I mean most people have access to a digital camera even if they don't have one of their own! I don't know it just seems "odd" to me ! Brandon |
Pete
When I was writing "Axis Pistols" and later "Third Reich Lugers" I had the opportunity to examine several 1939-42 dated military code Lugers with a proof sized deaths head and runes on the right receiver and barrel. Each had the usual right receiver proofs ground off and a complete set of new usual proofs and the skull and SS runes added. As I recall the regular proofs were larger than standard. On some, the ground front end of the receiver was so obvious from the top that you could see it from several feet away. The stampings were very well done and they looked neat. I was a potential customer until I finally saw one and determined it was a fake. I can recall seeing at least five of these fake SS marked Lugers about 15 years ago. Must have been quite a few more produced. I often wonderd what crack they disappeared into and when they would reappear. Jan |
Pete,
Be carefull when paying extra for markings. People love to see "SS" or a Deaths Head stamped on their guns. But how do you know it wasn't stamped yesterday? |
Thanks Guys,
I was not really considering this one, at all. I just thought an Internet sale with no photos offered (and no statement about a 3-day inspection) has trouble written all over it... |
