Ideal Shoulder Stock needs work

I have an Ideal shoulder stock/holster that has a missing spring latch to hold it in the open position. Does anyone recommend a machinest that I can trust to take it apart and replace the latch? I have engineering pictures of the parts to this piece.
Thanks, Jim Brown

To my Knowledge this is the only one of its kind, That is â??Reproâ? or â??Look Alikeâ? of the â??Idealâ?.
If you wish a more detailed picture of anything here Iâ??ll be glad to Photograph and E-mail to you.
Please inquire of John Sabato, Forum Moderator as to my reliability.

No need to inquire... I can heartily endorse Viggo's capability. orginal parts for an ideal stock are virtually unheard of. I think Tom Heller once said he had a partial stock, but that was some time ago. Viggo can make virtually any part that you might need to restore your Ideal stock. The photo essay in the member gallery of his complete reproduction of an ideal stock speaks for itself.

He is a real craftsman.

I will have to make a trip to Philadelphia to pick it up Viggo... If I end up waiting in line... that would be okay...

No one expects craftsmanship in a hurry...

I was just kidding about the Bottoms, :p
I remembered that you were waiting for an opportunity to visit your Dad in Phily.

Mustang66,
I wer'nt kidding about the Bottoms, :D
I asked for your best opinion as to the fair market value of an item and you gave me your "$$ value" answer.
I did not think that an answer to a positive response was expected, Thats a fact !
Oh, I did forget, Thanks for the response to my question .

Viggo, ya kill me and I can't think of a better guy, :)

Hey John, one of my best friends is a Philly cop :)

Viggo, Did you make this Ideal Holster stock from scratch? If so that is an impressive accomplishment. Jerry Burney

ViggoG 01-18-2003 05:28 PM

 Thats right Jerry,
And about 70% from recycled materials.
The Leather was a used Ladies 3/4 leather Coat from Thrift Shop.
The Tubes are Hydraulic Brake Tubing from NAPA.
The sheet Steel from old Computer Cabnets.
The Claws and spring material was cut from New Carpenters saw blades and heat treated with a "Bernz Torch".
The main Claw Body center was a cut from a thick portion of a 4" x 4" steel "I" beam.
Assorted rivets and screws from local Hardware Store.
Cut and put together with a lot of experience and patience, on a drill press, a 4" x 5" metal cutting band saw and 6" lathe, Bernz torch, and variety of files.
I am more proud of this than if I had access to a well equipped and supplied machine shop.
Much experience with, and knowledge of, a wide variety of materials gathered over 36 years of AeroSpace Research Support was an absolute necessity.

Very impressive!!

ViggoG 01-18-2003 11:53 PM

Hello Lonnie,
A supplement to my 01/18 post;
At the time of starting the "Ideal", I was recovering from a severe Kidney Cancer operation and accompanying Lymph Gland operation with complications.
I had neither the cash, nor strength to hunt around and travel to obtain the unusual types of materials needed. $260.00 for seamless high strength tubing which was only available in 12' lengths, as one example.
And as a result I was continually digging into my "Machinery's Handbook" for applicable steels.
And I had to reach far back into my past
"materials" experiences to come up with the differing types of steel characteristics necessary to do the job.
However this is the type of challenge that I needed to push me on in my recovery.
And it sure worked well for me!

:)

I've got to make it to Virginia and see this beauty in person!

Maybe I'll get "lucky" and work will send me, I am on my way to Irvine, Calf., this next week :)

JungleJim,

Since I am not aware of how educated you are on Lugers and shoulder stocks, I think it would be appropriate for me to post a caveat to you regarding your Ideal Stock.

You should be aware that attaching your Ideal Stock to ANY Luger other than the one type for which it was intended (see the ATF website C&R list) would constitute a federal felony...

If you have questions on what is legal and what is not regarding shoulder stocks, even though I am not a lawyer, and don't play one on TV, I will be glad to answer your questions in this matter.

junglejim 01-20-2003 07:50 PM

Thanks John, I have the Ideal Stock with a 1906 Eagle (9mm rare).
Jim
