Distressed 1912
 

Here's a rather sad looking 1912 that I came across. To my eyes this would benefit from restoration but I wondered what the forum's views would be on this. All the numbers match but it's had a hard life.

Your 1912, IMHO, is the perfect candidate for restoration. You would be preserving it for future generations to enjoy. I'm sure that Ted (Thor) would be glad to talk with you about it.

As the other gentlemen have indicated, it could benefit from restoration. However,(and unfortunately) since in the UK it would have to be deactivated (if it hasn't been already), I would think that restoration would not be prudent since you would not enhance the value enough to justify the cost of restoration. Perhaps I am wrong and I would appreciate it very much if you would correct me.

This particular pistol is live. Our law actually permits collectors to own pistols made before 1918 - perhaps it's 1919 - providing they have a a permit, appropriate security and NO ammunition. However, since posting I have received more info on the pistol and it has a bigger problem that would rule out restoration. You may recall what you said in one of my other posts about how revealing a photo from a different angle can be? Here's a different angle on this one:

Thanks for the information in the law about the exception for earlier pistols. I am glad to see that at least my favorite Imperial era Lugers might escape mutilation.

The latest photo is indeed revealing - a WWII Mauser forward toggle link on a WWI Erfurt pretty much dispels the notion that it is a matching gun.

Yes, I had previously been told by the vendor that all the numbers matched. Well, you live and learn....................

9x19 pistols are banned in Brittian regardless of when they are made.
Only lugers allowed in the hands of collectors are .30 cal.

Thank you for the information but I don't believe that to be accurate HÃ?Â¥kan. This 9mm Luger pistol falls under Section 7 of the firearms legislation, which says that Section 7 pistols fall into 2 categories:
All pistols must be pre 1919
Section 7.1 - Pistols of obsolete calibres - may be kept at home
Section 7.3 - Pistols of 'current' calibres - must be kept at designated site.

I don't think that's the case. As far as I know - and I'm not certain - "designated site" relates more to security. This could be your home but gun safes and other security measures would be required. Each pistol would be added to your licence prior to purchase. I think that the police retain a right of inspection at times of their choosing to ensure that regs are complied with. The obsolete calibres in Section 7.1 - such as a Reichsrevolver - can be kept without any particular security measure as it is considered that ammunition is not readily obtainable.
I may be corrected in this - Tacfoley will be the man to do it - if I'm wrong.
By the way, I rather enjoyed Ron's sense of humour too - considerably more subtle than that of the guy who told me it was matching.

Designatet site is a very few ranges with extreme saftey when it comes to storing the guns.
Bisley is a designated site , i know there is more but there is note many approved designated sites.
