Well, the first mahogany case...
 

is glued up, and waiting to set. Got some more sanding (a lot more) to do, and then the moment of truth... to cut it apart. Always a tense moment for me. Probably do that next weekend.


Then install the hardware, remove the hardware, finish the exterior, fit the interior, reinstall the hardware, and after all that, if it stills looks OK, then I'll take some pictures and post 'em. Probably still a couple of weekends away.

Hi Dok! Clamp or bolt a piece of plywood or stiff plastic to your saw fence to give it better stability when you split the box, it helps relieve corner nip! You might also clamp a piece to the table first and raise the blade up through it, to make a smoother bottom support also!.....till...later...G.T.

I actually saw a box cutting jig in a book somewhere that fitted over the fence and had a high back and an "L" shaped bottom. Was thinking of using that. Now if I can only find it again... Hehehe

Hi Dok, You don't owe me nothing!, except perhaps, to drink a cold beer with us at the next gathering!, I apprenticed under an incredible Swedish cabinet maker, (he is now 87!).....and they made all their owm jigs and fixtures, (and ground most of their own bits).....he could make things as fast as you could draw and shout dimensions.....there are some unbelievably skilled craftsmen out there!! Good luck on your box! I think mahogany is a great choice, till...later...G.T.
