how to tighten up loose grip panels
I have a 1938 s/42 with a nice set of grips numbered to the gun. The grip panels are both loose. Not that they are falling off, but they do move. Any suggestions?

I had really good results using hot glue. This method was explained by another member some time ago. I'll try and see if I can find the thread.

byf42--found it. Look up "tighten loose grips??" by Scott H. It works very well, and is easy to do.

Doug,
Thanks for the info. A little dab here and there and they tightened right up. Mike |
Another method that has seen some success on grips that are not very loose is to use neoprene O-rings that are exactly the same size, or slightly smaller than the diameter of the grip screw. The neoprene crushes softly and takes up the space between the screw and the grip without any kind of permanent modification to either...
You can find them in most large home stores like Home Depot or Lowes, and probably other large hardware stores... just take a grip screw with you to make sure you get the right size. |
I found that by gluing a small shim into the grip that is loose, solves the problem.
