Finishing up this one! The scriptic "hc" is a nice touch indicating it is a "Hugh Clark Special" I plan to put this engraved hc on my Baby also. Look for pictures of Doug's gun soon!

Johnny C. Kitchens 05-02-2003 02:05 PM

For those of us who don't know, how about some specs, how to get one, how much, are the magazines special or specific to that gun and anything else you can treat, us of lesser knowledge on the subject, to???

John Sabato 05-02-2003 02:32 PM

Johnny,

Do a search of the forum for "baby luger" and I am sure many of your questions will be answered...

Briefly. The mags are commercial ones that get chopped... These "babies" are being created by Hugh Clark and the waiting period has been as long as a couple of years... Then Thor takes over for finishing...

They aren't inexpensive, but then what is? that is of long term value?

Thor 05-02-2003 04:48 PM

I will let Hugh tell the story of his babies, but he has done a bunch of R&D on the recoil springs and found a great solution to really making these little jewels cruise when shooting them. The mags are cut to length, but a regular mag would work, it would just stick out the bottom. I chewed my nails so much waiting for mine I hand no hands left, lol. But now they are coming off the line pretty well I think considering! Frank has been working on a Logo with Sid Gariss doing the drafting to go on the chamber of his! I have been working for about three months on my Babies markings, as you see each is unique to the owners desire, which I think is super!! They really are a nice size, when I got mine back, I couldnt put the little devil down, it was so sweet! Firing it was a thrill and it was both accurate and functioned wonderfully! WOW....what a great combination, thanks Hugh!!!

Frank 05-02-2003 06:17 PM

Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy!!! Hugh said mine hadn't reached full term yet. If it doesn't reach it soon, I'm going to have to induce labor! I can hardly wait!! Nice job Hugh & Thor, but then what would you expect!! Darn they do nice work!!

Thor 05-03-2003 12:54 AM

Thanks everyone, I love working on these cool little Lugers, some of my other favorites are K dates, Navys (dont get many of these in shooter grades),Artillerys, and American Eagle Lugers. I would love to do a Carbine!!

Frank 05-03-2003 09:31 AM

OK, Thor, really cute !! :p

Hugh 05-03-2003 10:31 AM

Johnny,

I built the first two, a 7.65mm & 9mm, several years ago after reading about Georg's baby in a book. Basically, it is a standard Luger with the grip shortened 1/2" and the bbl shortened to 3". Took them to the Forum "get-togethers" in Phoenix, and several members wanted one. It took a lot of sweat and tears to work out the correct combination of main spring length/strength to attain reliable functioning.

The bbl is shortened by cutting off the sight collar, turning down the end of the bbl , reaming out the collar, and silver soldering it onto the bbl. Grips are made by removing 1/2" from the middle of standard grips, epoxing them back together and recheckering. Magazines are standard mags with the end cut off to correct length, the bottom of the slot welded up, and bottom installed. Capacity is reduced by one round.

The price is $1000 if you furnish the gun for conversion, $1500 if I furnish the gun. If I furnish the gun, it will be a "parts gun" and not all matching. Price is for the conversion, rust blue and strawing by me.

If you want Ted to do the rust bluing and have engraving done, I will deduct $200 from the conversion price and send the gun to Ted. Price for further work by Ted will be settled between him and the gun owner.

I will admit up front that although I can do an adaquate rust blue job,the master THOR has had a lot more practice and is much better than I am.

Thor 05-03-2003 11:51 AM

Hey Hugh, how about one of them high speed 22 Lugers in a baby configuration? You think you can make the toggle work with that combo?

Hugh 05-03-2003 07:05 PM

Yeah, Ted, your're sure a big help! All I need is more projects! I don't even know if the standard action is going to work with the 22, haven't gotten the dies from C&H yet.

policeluger 05-03-2003 10:36 PM
