Barrel Bank Source
Does anyone know where I might purchase a barrel blank that meets the orignial German military specifications: groove diameter
.359/.357, bore diameter .349/.347, 6 grooves right hand twist, 1 turn in 9.843? All dimensions are in inches. The Wizard |
Don't know about all that technical data but you can buy barrels at both Sarco and Numrich or even Lugerdoc here on the forum. You could probably email them and ask but I sincerely doubt if they would know the technical specs with the possible exception of Lugerdoc, I'm reasonably sure that the ones he has are originals.

I am looking to reline the barrel on a matching import P08. Really want to keep the matching barrel on the pistol but would like some riflings in the barrel.

There are several people that re-line barrels, I have heard of a guy in Omak, WA., that relines broomhandles, always ehard good things. If he can reline a broom, he can reline a luger. I would imgaine an internet search will show up several possibilities, and he used to, along with others have ads in Shotgun News.

I am a gunsmithing student at Trinidad State Junior College. I intend to reline the barrel as a class project. I do not need someone to do it for me and I can purchase a barrel blank from Brownells but it is not to the original German specifications. I want to keep the pistol as close to original as possible. The pistol is in very good condition except it does not have any riflings left. Therefore the need to reline.

Sorry, your original and then the reply to Herb were a bit conflicting to each, but I see now what you meant.

Johnny,
The best suggestion that I can make is to see if Hugh, Thor, LugerDoc, or others may have a barrel that is of fair to good bore with exterior problems. This you could turn to shrink fit a predetermined bore size in the Luger barrel that you are re-furbishing. However this demands careful control of bore depths and shoulder lengths to preserve the head space within tolerance. ViggoG PS: read your PM's |

Viggo has a good idea. I have a 4" 9mm bbl that is badly pitted on the outside, but has a perfect bore. If you will email me your snailmail address, I will send it to you for free. Hugh <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" /> hhclark@academicplanet.com |
