WTK: How Much $$ for Luger ctxt

Thanks for the responses below on my question about strawing. First off let me state that I have no intentions of becoming a Luger collector. Let's just say that I will not want to purchase a $1,000 plus gun. I only spend foolish amounts of money on NFA weapons. Anyway, I have decided that I need a first Luger to shoot and fondle. How much am I going to need to spend to have a nice matching military weapon. Function is more important that the amount of finish that is left. I see there is a fella in the resource section that re-straws and re-finishes weapons so I would consider that. I know nothing about the luger market and I am seeking tips on what to buy.

Thanks

Crl

If you also look in the Links and Resource Section, you will find HellerArms (Tom Heller)and The World of Lugers (Ralph Shattuck). You should be able to buy a decent Military Luger "shooter" from either of these sources for $400 to $600. Then, if you want to have it refinished, Ted Green can do a wonderful job for you. He has refinished one of mine and is working on the second. His prices vary depending on your wants. LOL

Check the classifieds on this site.

Tom Heller is a forum recommended dealer whose reputation guarantees that the description of the Luger matches what you receive.

His prices are good too.

You can also check with Ralph Shattuck's World of Lugers. his link is there too.

I would just add...

that you mention a "nice matching military weapon", recognize that if you really want a shooter, that "matching" part will do little for you other than drive the price up. A non-matching military will run you 350 - 450 approx... but the minute you specify "matching" that will instantly add $$$ to the price.

There is an excellent article in the FAQ by Kyrie on the differences between collectibles and shooters, and well worth a read. Of course you may be lucky enough to get a great deal on a matching Luger shooter, but I just thought I'd throw my 2¢ worth in, and point out that "matching" is one of the attributes usually associated with collectibles.
