Repro Navy Zig-Zag Rod...
 

Bought this reproduction Imperial Navy zig-zag cleaning rod on e-Bay...knowing it was a repro yet wanting to have it to go along with my 1970's 6" 9mm luger and holster rig.

Did not have to spend a lot of money for it...$ 60 and I has happy to have something to put with my 6" shooter rig.

Thought folks might like to see the quality of this one...so am posting photos.

What is obviously "wrong" that could not be mistaken for an original is :

1. Made of steel not brass.
2. Diameter of shaft is very thick.
3. Wooden handle does not swivel on top of the metal shaft.
4. Would not think the Imperial navy folks would be stamping a tool with the "1939" date...

Overall, it is a decently made rod and I am glad to have it to shove into my 6" shooter holster's cleaning rod pouch...

Anyone got stuck with buying one of those brass zig-zap copies made up a few years ago...and willing to admit it... ? I would like to see close-up photos of the workmanship on one of those...??? Might help others know to stay away from them as they pop-up at gun shows...

We displayed a comparison photo of a real zig-zag and a "highly questionable" one at Chattanooga during my presentation.

The metal is a correct duplicate in external dimensions; its the handle and the "not quite right" patination of the brass that are the principal visual differences.

Pete... If I had my druthers for Christmas, it would be a digital camera for Big Norm, with a REAL COLOR PRINTER,

... AND TOM HELLER (another guy who needs a digital camera...along with a REAL COMPUTER ...he is still using that darned WebTV device!

... and to have both of those guys and sitting with TOM ARMSTRONG in the same room for about an hour (without alcoholic beverages) with their computers, and cameras and connected to the internet so I could instruct them personally on movement of photos from their cameras to the Lugerforum server... It sure would save a lot of time and anticipatory frustration for us photo collectors... and then once the light bulb came on for all three of them we could adjourn to someplace with appropriate seasonal refreshments...

I hope Santa is listening... Santa, they really have been good boys this year!...

John S, Of course you are correct, but if I did get fully equipted, I'd probably have to spend all day sending you guys photos, rather than sending out orders. My current 2 to 3 hours a day just on these forums, seems to be the max time that I can afford. Th

Well actually, you probably spend 30 min to an hour longer than you'd have to using webtv. With a computer, you click and see, save info etc. With webtv, the interface is harder and thus takes more time. Especially when typing messages?

and you just do like a lot of these older guys, and tell them, sorry no picture capability... Although, I think it'd increase sales?

I agree with Ed. Tom, once you got the hang of it, sending photos is no different than sending text... folks could see what you are offering and I think it would increase sales...

If you look at the bidders list, you can see that the knowledgeable folks stopped bidding at $25.00...

The same guy purchased a standard WW2 P.08 cleaning rod for over $217.50 at the beginning of the month... I hope he finds the Lugerforum soon so he can ask questions , before he is bankrupt!

This is one I picked up a while ago. Looks wrong and probably is. Tube is steel and the handle swivels but has the appearance of a cheap repair. Only 2 rings on each side.

It's shoddy quality may mean it's former Dutch police property :D (who did own a number of navies and LP08s, purchased after 1918 and taken from German vessels in Belgian ports).

I'm still curious about it's origins.
