Odd take-down tool

I have come across a take-down tool with a proof unknown to me. It is a capital "W" in Roman font with a squarish shield above it. I can email a photo if that would help.

Email a photo...it would help. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

On the way Ron.

Here it is. I haven't a clue. Will have to hit the books.

Ron, I've been through my books and come up empty handed. Someone suggested that it was Dutch (Wilhelmina) but I tend to toss that out.

Ron Wood 11-24-2003 03:41 PM

Good toss...I don't think it is Dutch either.

George... could you possibly take the photo with a little more focus and zoom on just the stamp... I have tried examining the stamp under high magnification but it gets too pixelated too fast to see the image...

I know my eyes could be better, but let me bounce this off you guys and see if you can "picture" what I "see" here... could this be an eagle over a swastika that has been flattened by the shield shaped mark to obliterate it? as is required in some European nations? The "W" could be anything... I can't find this mark in any of my books either...

Just my guess that probably doesn't even add up to http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/2phennig.jpg

Germany is divided in States (L¤nder). These states are subdivided in Landkreise or Rural districts, which are made up of municipalities (Gemeinden) and Kreisfreie St¤dte, or cities. In some states municipalities are combined into ?mter and Grossgemeinden (larger bodies, but the individual municipalities still exist).

Several years ago I had one with just W or M on it. No crest or anything. It got legs at a shoot. Wondered whether it belonged to some navy type issue.
