My latest grip "win" on e-Bay...

Supposedly, they are birch or maple...wonder which of my shooters will be unlucky enough to receive them...?

Regards,

Pete...

Very interesting and nice looking grips!

I like wood and the variations they come in with colors, look and feel. :)

Pete,
I could well be mistaken, But: :p
Some where in the back of my mind I recall hearing of an Oriental Tree Called "Tiger Wood",
( No Not Him !") and that was the first thing that came to my mind when I first laid eyes on the picture of your new grips.
And, again say; I could well be mistaken, But it sure seems to describe your Grips.
Do you think that this pretty Figured Wood is that variety ?

I am far from a wood expert (despite the last name)but I would think they are "tiger" or "fiddle-back" maple (same thing, just two different names).

viggo g,
that is just what "tiger wood" looks like. carves nicely, and is strong when carved. tiger maple can also have a similar grain, and it is possible to find a cut with that much of the same stripping.(that straight) often in tiger maple you will still see some swirls or curved grain areas that look like watermarks. like those around the bump on the piece on the right. not always in small pieces, but you will see some areas that look almost clear. i can't make out on my screen what the fine grain looks like. there are a few other woods that have some of the same features .. sometimes. even mahogany can do that . more often if it comes from asia rather than south america, for some reason. pretty tough to tell without seeing the rest of the piece it came from. a good call on your part, i think.

Pete, if you paint them white, they will look just like ivory!!!! :D

Opinions are like elbows (to paraphrase an old saying) ... everybody has some... and Pete, I apologize... I have to say it (while laughing)...

I sure hope they are comfortable and give you remarkable control of some shooter Luger, because IMHO those are some UGLY grips... I "wood" take them and sand them to the correct proportions to resemble smooth Luger grips and use Frank's suggestion and paint them white...
