Erfurt Magazine Question...
 

I have just created a Member's Gallery photo study of a pretty decent Erfurt magazine I was able to pick up a few weeks back.

Would appreciate folks taking a look and giving me your opinions :

1. Is this magazine the "real deal"...?

2. Are two (2) Erfurt proofs on the wooden base typical and/or correct/proper...? I have seen 3 other Erfurt magazines that had only one (1) proof stamp...so don't know what is what...

The photos are high resolution, so if you click on each photo several times, the view gets better and more detailed...

Pete, recall all the brou ha ha with my "1914" receiver dated 1917 Erfurt. I learned from Jan Still and others that when the "later" Erfurt models were released, with the relieved breechblocks and stock lugs (1915 and later) the clip bottoms were single proofed. This is a trademark of a "later" Erfurt, especially 1917 and 1918.

Pete I have an Erfurt mag that is douple proofed, a crown something on the front and a crown 'B' on the rear, Wood bottom nickel tube. Pic available if you want.

In my readings of Still's Imperial Lugers(IL), the nickle alloy plating on Erfurt magazine tubes came about around 1913 (page 81). So my magazine is probably 1913 or 1914. Cannot be a 1915, since no 1915 dated Erfurts exist...

In reviewing the magazine photos in the IL book, it appears that Erfurt dropped to a single proof on the magazine bottom by 1916...and there after...

The close-up photo in my Member's Gallery of the magazine loading button also shows the typical "flat" checkering that is unique to Erufrt (see IL book, page 82) and is quite different to the DWM checkering on their loading button...

Pete, I'll have it in tow, will be interesting to see another one and to compare them side by side. Mine is in really good shape, probably the best of my nickel plated ones.
