Post WWII LP-08 Holster...

Had a chance to pick up this neat 8" holster for an Artillery luger.

These were made by a local leather-smith in the SF, CA area, exclusively as I understand, for the SF Gun Exchange in the 1960's to 1970's. This fellow stopped his work once he picked up a big holster contract for local police departments.

Holster is well made, fully lined in the gun compartment, uses linen/hemp type sticthing and is very soft and pliable and fits a LP-08 very well.

Thought some LP-08 folks would enjoy seeing the photos :

Pete, that's a great holster and the quality looks to be excellent. I'll bet Jerry (Lugerholsterrepair) finds it interesting too.

Very interesting item.
Well done Pete.

Well several folks have asked off-Forum...so here is the info.

I paid $ 50.00 USD for this holster. The funny thing, the price tag was marked and I quote "..$50 to $ 100..."...end of quote. Of course I offered $ 50.00 and the deal was done. Doc Fisher is my witness to this "story" as he was there as well...

I will be keeping this one for my own collection. But since these came out of the Bay Area, I suspect more might be around. I will keep my eyes open for others and our Moderator, Mauro, will get the first one I run across...

p.s.

If Jerry Burney is interested in making a few of these to sell to Luger Forum members, I would be happy to send this one to Jerry so he could take it apart to make templates and then re-stitch and return to me...Whadda-ya-say...Jerry...?

Pete, I just noticed this thread and your kind offer. I appreciate it no end but have to decline. My repair business is so busy I have no time for such projects. I much prefer to work on pre 45 holsters anyway. I have made several holsters along this line in my spare time but my real interests lie elswhere.

One other thing as a side note...This holster could not be made profitably for less than around $150.00 by an individual. One would need a $1500.00 leather sewing machine and qite a bit of time for each holster, plus the cost of materials. If it were a production model and an order placed for thousands of them, the price would drop considerably. You got a great deal. Thanks for thinking of me! Jerry Burney

Hello to all,
please find here some pics of my post WWII LP08 holster. It is stamped: Old West / Gun Room / El Cerrine Calif. / 98 1/2 Luger 8

Any information about this leather-smith?
Please let me know.

Hello Mauro...

Based on the stampings on the back of your new holster versus the stampings shown on my brown one; I would guess that these two holsters were made by the same outfit. Especially since the SF Gun Exchange and the Old West Gun Room in El Cerrito, CA are both located in the SF Bay Area.

The SF Gun Exchange is out of business, but the Old West Gun Room is still in business. They made the news a year or so ago...the gun shop was being robbed and the Owner staff started shooting in self defence. One of the stray bullets went out the window or walls and crossed the street and hit a 16 year old school boy. He was lucky and survived but the anti-gun folks made good use of this situation to try to close down the gun shop. I am sure their insurance costs are very high, now...

I do not know the name of the leathersmith behind our two holsters. I will continue asking and will let you know when I find out...next time I am in El Cerrito, I will bring my holster and ask the gun shop owner.

p.s.

Is you holster lined with very soft, finished leather...as my holster is...?

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Thank you for the information Pete.
Yes the holster is similar to your except for the key pouch and the colour.
