Pre-production LP08 stock reproduction.

Hello everybody ,
I have contacted the German dealer Transarms that commercialises this very interesting reproduction of the pre-production LP08 stock. The original stocks are very rare and were used with pre-production LP08 model 1912-1913. These stocks were fitted inside pig skin holster. I spent few pages in my book in the analysis of the stocks and holsters.

This reproduction seems well done. The price is 590 euros plus ship cost.

Unless this has been added to the ATF exemption list, be aware that attaching this stock to ANY Luger is a Federal Firearms violation in the USA and can get you 10 years in Club Fed. There is NO parole in the Federal court system.

Although I might be playing with words, it is probably legal to buy the stock and own it in the US, but it might be illegal to attach it to a Luger pistol. I see no harm in having such a stock in a gun room laying next to a LP08, but it would not be advisable to take it out to a shooting range which could lead you to 'Club Fed'.

For those collectors who wish to pay 10% of the price instead of the 'real deal', this is not a bad way to go.

I guess I am becoming a tightwad in my old age, but to me nearly $700, considering shipping, insurance, etc., is about $300-$400 too high for a reproduction item that has very little relevance to anyoneâ??s collection. Granted, it took some investment to tool up to produce this stock, but what is the point in owning one? Unless you have a VERY early artillery to go with it, it is only a curiosity that is nice to know about but isnâ??t original and has not much intrinsic worth. As far as actually using it to shoot with, it has little advantage over a board stock, and you certainly wouldnâ??t want to put a nice Luger inside it (take a look at the wear on otherwise mint broomhandle Mausers).

From the photo, the finish on the hardware is mediocre at best. I would like to see a close up of the wood to metal fit of the attaching iron to see if it is as poorly done as the earlier reproductions of this stock that I have seen. Perhaps this version is of better quality, but I think it is for the individual that owns everything else and can afford to spend the money.

I have decided to add a post script. It would be a nice addition to an advanced artillery Luger collection as a display piece. (I have had my coffee now).

I agree that the price is a little steep for a repro stock, but it would depend on the quality of finish and the metal/wood fit as you mentioned.

We will see how much the price decreases down the road.

Have to agree with Ron. While it is an interesting piece and would make a nice curiosity item to add to a collection, that's too much money for a part which never actually went into German military or commercial production.

Duh . . . having said that, I just remembered that the 45 Luger never went into production either.

I would love to own one of these stocks, but it will have to drop considerably in price before I can justify it. Shoot . . . one can get a pretty good "shooter" Luger for that kind of money.

These stocks have recently appeared multiple times for sale on eBay and I don't think they are drawing much in price... While a novelty item, I agree that I don't have a place for one at the asking price mentioned above... especially if I would have to pay the $200 National Firearms Act Tax for creating a short barreled rifle to use one!

If they interest you, I encourage you to obey the letter of the law in obtaining and owning and using one... and to watch ebay... because I think they have been selling for only a couple of hundred dollars or less...
