Candidate for Thor?

How much would this be worth as a "pricey fixer upper"? <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
Cheers,

Hi Tim!

Assuming it is mechanically sound, the same as any other mechanically sound shooter Artillery Luger - about $600 to $700. Itâ??s a pity that its most interesting feature (the left grip panel marked with the â??9â?) is a later addition.

Warm regards,

Kyrie

Hugh does a nice job on the red 9 grip refurb too!http://members.rennlist.com/lugerman/red9grips.jpg

Good Luck, Tim. Nice pistol. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Very nice specimen for the price. It either a 1917 or 1918 by looking at the front fixed sight. I would love to have those "Red Nine" grips. They don't belong on a 1917-18.

Big Norm, Regarding the Red Nine grips, if not a 1918 or 1917, what then would be correct?

Herb 07-19-2002 10:33 PM

George, my info says 1920.

Herb
What is the basis for the 1920 date. I have only observed them on a couple of 1917 dated artilleries. They were marked in the field so they wouldnt be mistakenly loaded with 7.63 mauser ammo used in the 7.63 caliber brooms.

I was just curious because I bought the pistol in question. The left grip is misnumbered to the pistol and the form of the nine is not consistent with those seen on brooms or that on the right which is numbered to the gun.

Other than the left grip, the pistol is right as rain though the bluing is all but gone. No pitting and no rust.

George, I'd say this would be a perfect candidate for Thor. I bought an arty from a gun store over a year ago that was all white metal. All matching except for mag and trigger bar. Bore was mediocre. I always intended for it to be a shooter and to have Thor refinish it. After firing a few boxes of ammo, the breechblock broke, so I shipped it to Tom Heller and had him install a new barrel and an armorer's breechblock. Then shipped it to Thor. With Thor's artistry, and new Nill grips, it's a truly magnificent gun! Thor does outstanding work, and his prices are dirt cheap!
