DWM 1917 long Luger
http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/DWM1917Luger.jpg
Hi, I found a DWM 1917 long Luger with a second safety on the left hand grip and two sets of screws on each side- as per photo attached. Do you have any idea what this Luger was used for? Thanking you in advanced, Joel Burton jbur5@hotmail.com |
Joel; just a guess, but It looks like someone put a side mounted scope on it at one time.

Hi Lonnie,
Funny you say that, as you posted while I was looking at the picture - and was thinking the same thing... It looks like a saddle-type scope mount, where the frame rails have been drilled and tapped on both sides. What I can't figure out is the cut-out of the grip?? Anyway - so far - I agree with you - it does appear as a mount/scope was affixed at some point in time.... |
I have to agree with everyone else that this looks like at least a scope was assembled to the Luger (too bad, it looks like a nice gun). But there were a number of accessories originally made for the Luger. I saw one such accessory that Doug Smith of FGS had. It was a brass tubed flashlight that probably was made for mounting the underside of an artillery Lugers barrel. A couple of wires came out of it probably for a belt mounted battery.
