This is an interesting item on e-bay. I think of artillery's as being WW1, but this is the 2nd time at least that I have heard of artillerys being brought back / used in WW2.

How common was this?

Obviously an artillery was picked up and probably used by the germans. Is that so?

Ed, not easy to tell what the picture�´s history really is!
On the end of WWII much things where collected as war souveniers from German houses - there may hve been some Guns from WWI remaining.
I never have heard they still used the Arty in WWII.

I saw a reel on the history channel with a German SS officer holding one when he got out of the motor car. He was going into someones quarters after the assination attempt on the Furher. DB

I seem to recall somewhere an Arty Luger that turned up in Canada, the property of an ex-Canadian officer, if my memory serves me correctly this Arty was taken from a POW Camp guard at the end of the war. Does anybody remember the facts, I'm sure I read it on the Forum.

I saw a photo once of crew members from a German commerce raider, possibly SMS Kormoran, cannot remember much but it was taken on board. I'm sure one of the sailors was wearing an Arty.

John, I believe the SMS Kormoran was an Imperial auxilliary cruiser in the first war. It operated in your part of the world but never took any prizes or sank anything. It was interned in American Samoa in 14 or 15 and then scuttled by the crew in 17 when the US entered the war.

LP08s were used by the German Navy during the second war, I have one so marked. These are really not that uncommon.

I would like to highlight that in the 1942-43 some LP08 were modified with an automatic device. One of these pistols is in the Mr. Regnier collection, the number 9. I have analyzed this pistol during a visit I have done to Mr. Regnierlast year. I have presented this pistol at page 67, 68, 69 and 70 of my book. It seems that this lp08 was captured in French on 1944.
In addition this pistol has been presented by Mr. Gortz in an article in the prestigious Deutsches Waffen-Journal (August â?? October 1981).
This to stress that some LP08 were used during the WWII as well.

An eagle eye member spotted this, a Yugoslav unit from WW2 and that sure looks like a Artillery Holster to me?

The shape doesn't look correct to me for an Artillery Holster... maybe a Mauser c96...

but the soldier is obviously carrying and using a centerfire rifle... I can't imagine carrying a heavy pistol/stock/holster combination like an Artillery Luger unless it were my primary weapon.

I have to agree with John that it does not look like an LP08 holster but I don't know that it looks like a C96 either. Perhaps a flare gun or some sort of equipment case?

Yes, it is awful big, and might be because I "wanted" it to be a artillery luger! :)
