Pete,
Sounds more like a Navy than a arty, but the pictures you send, I will post them here for you. The 1916 is year of manufacture, the 1920 is a property stamping that was placed there during those times in germany when things were a bit rough. DWM is the manufacturer, value is more for an artillery than a 4 inch model, much depends on condition, but unless pitted, $700--$800 and up. All depends on condition and rarity, i.e. if an artillery or navy... Ed |
Found picture on page372 of lugers at random.says post ww1 navy issue double dated artillery issued to post war germany navy . anavy mark and unit # found on rear grip strap but not sure if that is unit # or not . only two pit spots could use help on what it realy is Pete

Pete, I think you are on the right trail! Clearer pictures of markings on grip strap, sides, proofs, etc would be helpful, but I think you are on the right track. Unsure of value, the sideplate looks totally different in color bluing? If others have not chimed in, I can look tonight when I get home to the books!

Hello Pete,
for more infos about the history of the LP08, you can have a look at my web site completely focused on the Luger Artillery models: history, use and accessories. I hope this helps. Ciao Mauro |
The piece is a Weimar -era re-issue to the Reichsmarine. Not common but not all that rare. Typically sell for $2500 or so in 95% condition. The holsters are the rare part; I looked for about 6 years before I found one.
