Another "BEAUTY" going off on Flea bay 2289884964
I can smell this up in vermont. When will they learn

Ron Wood 11-30-2004 10:56 AM

The guy vows that it is "original, not reproduction", but to me it screams repro. Am I wrong? (I don't think so)

George Anderson 11-30-2004 11:00 AM

I emailed the guy that it was a recent copy and that it looked like those sold by IMA. In his reply he called me everything but a .....!

The guy's a real raver. I think, perhaps, he got a real screwing when he bought it.

One of our friends in Texas is a bidder on this rig. He needs to get out of it.

John Sabato 12-01-2004 10:58 AM

I don't recognize any of the bidders except for Schwob (New England)... and Bob has stopped bidding, thank goodness...

George, If you know someone else in the bidders list, send them an email. If you don't know the email address, but know who it is, let me know and I will research the email address from the membership database... and contact them. We don't want any forum members getting burned if we can help it.

Ron Wood 12-01-2004 11:32 AM

I emailed the seller also, and, while his reply was not particularly rude, it is obvious that he does not want to be advised his rig is a repro. None are so blind as those who will not see.

jnewman 12-01-2004 11:51 AM

The seller added the disclaimer that he has been told his item is a repro. If he / and or a bidder want to believe the rig is authentic it is ok with me. They have been warned. Now while I have very limited knowledge on the subject I did e-mail the seller to describe the differences between mine and his. Perhaps he will change his mind.

George Anderson 12-01-2004 02:06 PM

John. the other fellow is a young man who flies choppers for the taxpayers. I will email him.

Pete Ebbink 12-01-2004 02:18 PM

Seller does have a sense of humor...read part of his new disclaimer :

" I have had a few self proclaimed luger experts give their opinion as to the authenticity of this holster. Since I am not a Luger holster expert with a doctorate in military luger holsterology, I cannot tell you if it is or isnt.Since my carbon dating machine to date the stock is in the shop, I cant do that, and since the "pet psycic" is outta town, I cannot have her talk to the stock and find out when it was made. "

I thought it a decent buy for under $ 200 for a repro set...IMHO...

I agree he's a funny guy. Seller did e-mail back, says he will pull the auction and relist. The e-mail isn't real clear but I believe the new listing will state repro or at least state upfront the doubt that exist. Sounds like someone's money was saved during the Christmass season. Good going guys!

Since we are on the topic, are any black artillery rigs original? I understand that all of the issued WWI artillery holsters were brown, but I have wondered if some ended up being dyed black.

Morris Gardner 12-02-2004 03:31 AM

IMA Artillery repros are apparently miscut from a bad pattern and even a Luger with a 4 inch barrel will not fit into them without nearly superhuman effort. Even then, one can't come close to closing the flap properly. And there is the matter of the Crackerjack Box quality stock irons...

I emailed this info to seller and suggested that he get his hands on a Luger and try the holster on for size. In so doing, perhaps he will reconsider the "authenticity" of this item and react accordingly.

Hi All,

It sold for $400 "Buy it NOW"
Buyers name it held back.
I hope he is happy with it.
Sold ---NO RETURN permitted---

It looks like you fellows REALLY rattled the sellers cage.. I like that.

If it were real would it not have white/grey thread not black?

Be safe,

The thing sold for $400??? It looks like we didn't rattle enough cages.

I bought a repro stock and holster and had trouble getting the gun to fit. I soaked the holster and inserted the (protected) gun in it while the holster dried. It then fit very well. But, it was sold as a repro and was priced accordingly. Nothing wrong with a repro if it is sold as such. Besides, it is for a VERY missmatched/reblued 1930's commercial artillery.

With that being said, $400.00 is too much for a repro and if it is not represented properly, that is wrong!
