Krieghoff Mags $1200.00 ??

I was looking at Simpson's Luger accessories. Are Krieghoff mags really worth $1200.00? How do you identify them? How are they marked?

Ron

John D. 05-11-2004 09:21 PM

Are they worth $1200????

No.....

To identify them - look for the LWaA stamp, serialization and the proper marks with the type it's stamped to. If you have a photo and a good description - I'll try to walk you through any HK Mag, OK?

Best to you,

John

John, Thanks, just curious.

Ron, did you receive some "odd" PM's? :D

You are right, ask those questions, the only way you learn is by asking questions and also by reading through the old posts.

This isn't directed at you, but sometimes new members ask questions that were just answered one post down, and "older" members feel they have answered the same question 10 times recently.. Plus, there is a FAQ and many documents and articles available on the forum.

Ed , Thanks, If that's the case. A simple "Do a search" or "Check FAQ" would be sufficient. Sorry if I sought to tread in "Elite Territory"

I would tend to disagree with John D., our esteemed host. If the Kreighoff mag in question is legit and makes the difference between a completely matching ensemble, I would (and have) paid a thou as a premium.

Hi Tom,

The only HK MAG worth $1200 better be one from a presentation HK. Or - one inlaid with gold, hammered by 21 special virgins.

Frankly - if you'll pay $1200 for a "completely matching ensemble" - my guess is that "original mag" will be "made to order" in about 1 hour by Waffenfabrikusa...

Watch your "6" on HK fakes. This isn't the "Navy" Lugers - where a lot more is documented and written through the years.... HK's can be rather "dicey" to folks. It's taken me over 25 years of Luger collecting and more then 15 years of specializing in HKs to make that statement.....

Big Norm 05-13-2004 01:14 AM

As with the Borchardt, finding the matching mag for a rare HK would be very difficult and a prize almost as great as buying the gun itself. I have heard that Borchardt mags for for $1000. Would I pay that much? I really don't know. I do know that I would also love to have a Borchardt hold open mag. That also would cost some bucks.

John, you are correct in your statement about HK's being rather "dicey" for some folks. Everytime someone posts one on the forum, I break out my small collection of four and compare them to comments made. Then I spend the rest of the night re-oiling and cleaning mine. So far, I have done all my cleaning while smiling in satisfaction.

Ed This is why I posed the question to begin with. I thought it was possible that what I had purchased, was a Krieghoff magazine. Evidently that's not the case. If it was. I was going to offer it to one of the Krieghoff collectors at a bargan price. Since it's not I will keep it. Ed, no offense intended and none taken. Thanks! Ron, your 122 Magazine S/N 2200o is from either a 41 Code 42 or a 41 byf. Standard Military!!

Sorry, no HK here!

Ron Smith 05-13-2004 10:01 AM

Frank, Thanks! So I've been told. When I first got it. I did'nt know that Krieghoffs are stamped with an exclusive LWAa E/2 or?.(I did'nt buy it as a Krieghoff. Got it for a fair price.) That's what I was trying to determine when I originaly started this thread. However direct informative answers were few and far between.
Appreciate the response and the info. :)

Absolutely agree, the tuition at Luger U. can be pretty steep, that is why I always vet new Krieghoffs through several people before I plunkdowndamoney. John D. is one such person and he was material in my obtaining a wonderful Khoff rig with 2 matched mags,

Lets get serious folks; no one individual can know it all. This hobby (There is a thin line between a hobby and insanity) entails betting some significant moolaah that you know at least as much as the other guy. When I am suffering from knowledge defecit, I have no problems with asking for assistance from those who are recognized experts in the field. Hell's bells, I will even pay for expert advice. It's all a part of this game. You are predator or prey.

Hello Ron,

If you do not have Randall Gibson's book on HK lugers, I would be happy to scan the 6 pages in which he deals with the many, various types of HK magazines...(just send me your private email address...).

Probably too much info and detail for one of our HK collectors to go into here on the Forum...

You might want to consider this book for your next luger book buy. In addition to details about the HK lugers, Gibson does go into details of the manufacturing characteristics of the other luger makers and how their guns differed from the HK guns. Good stuff to know about lugers in general...

p.s. Regarding the $ 1200 P-stamped HK magazine. Maybe it is $ 1200 asking price because the folks selling it may know the gun actually exists and there is a "premium" to get the magazine back together with the gun...???

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Ron Smith 05-13-2004 11:11 PM

Hey guys thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated.
Pete, thanks for the scan offer. I don't want to put you to the trouble. My chances of ever getting into them is pretty slim.
Tom, thanks for the supportive dialogue.
If anyone is interested, I have posted pictures of the .22 conversion kit I picked up today. Under " Accessories". I don't know much about them . Sure would like to know if it's pre or post war. If it's an Erma. Any enlightenment would be appreciated. It came with both spacers, for 4" and 6" barrels.

Thanks again! Ron
