I guess that your picture illustrates what Im looking for. There are obviously parts missing on mine. Would it be possible to obtain these missing parts, or am I forced to make repros? Please advise me. If so, could you send me the measurments etc? I would be forever greatful, and please let me know if I ever can do you a favor sometime. http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/p08cut1.jpg

There are a few safeties floating out on e-bay, I have seen two for sale and they are very expensive. Keep in mind that from official orders, the magazine safeties were ordered to be pulled, and so either you see a blank spot where it has been pulled or you see some of the safety still remaining.
Mine is almost complete, that is fairly unusual to see btw. Ed Here is a page from Third Reich Lugers, by Jan C. Hello Kjell,
Does your luger have a circular hole drilled into the left side of the frame and does you side plate have a vertical slot/cut ? If not, your luger might have just had some wooden grips from another pistol placed on your gun. Here is a photo showing the metal hole and the vertical slot/cut I mentioned... <a href="http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/peteserfurt10.jpg" target="_fullview"><img src="http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/peteserfurt10.jpg" width="400" alt="Click for fullsize image" /></a> p.s. I noticed your Avatar photo/jpeg shows a case full of lugers. Are these, by chance, all in your collection ? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |
Wow, that was fast! Thank you Edward, very interesting to se the drawings. Sounds like a book I have to buy. I think that I will keep the P08 the way it is until eventualy some original parts surfaces. Pete, the hole is most definitivily there, so I guess that its original to the pistol. As for the Avatar, there are probably many on this forum that has more P08`s than me. I sold of a few of them, but have kept the goodies:-)

Max,
Nice looking gun, but you will have to do more than acquire the missing safety. When the safety was removed on your Luger, the retaining slot in the frame was filled/welded shut and will have to be recut. Since the hole remains this is not an extensive modification, but begs the question if it is worth the effort. |
Thanks for pointing that out Ron, and thank you. Yes I guess that the best thing would be to leave it as it is, since it is an "official" alteration it has its own history anyhow. If the alteration had been a result of a "Mr Fixit" on the other hand it would have been more etical to bring it back to its original state.

Max, I think that you're wise to leave your PO8 as is. Even if you find the remains of a mag safety, it would not change the function of your luger, as they all have had the part that goes behind the trigger cut off. If you were to ever find an "uncut" one, it has probably been restored or recreated, and would probably fail quickly, as did the originals, and you could not fire your gun. TH

Max, I would love to have good photographs of your box of Lugers for my Luger photo collection Please check your Private Messages (click on the 'My Profile'link at the top of this page...for my email address.
Good Luck with your new camera! |
Hello John
You got mail! |
I will most definitively listen to your advise Lugerdoc; The gun stays as it is!

Max: If you decide to ever change your mind I have 3 original safeties left from 8 that I bought right out of Germany. They are not repo's and they are of one piece construction and have never been repaired. I have replaced a few on the guns I have without any difficulties but you do need the slot and hole to make it work correctly. SAM Buscemi
