another, "what is it" newbie question.
Got a chance to get a p.08 instead of the p38 i've been looking for. The luger looks 95+%. Strong straw color. Perfect looking wood. It's a DWM but has no banner or markings for the chamber inscription. "made in Germany" on the side. Serial is 2900 with and "i" below it and a crown and "N" above it. It has the stock lug but no maching mags with it. He's asking $370. He also has what looks like a russian capture 08(all peened out) with 1920 on the chamber... for $290. Any ideas what the first one is? I've done some looking around but have only seen them with "germany" on the side and with a banner on the chamber. Thanks.

Either is a good price if they function, the first is a 1920 Commercial Luger that is export marked, or in Still terms an Alphabet DWM. I would imagine the first is in 30 Luger caliber and the second is probably chambered in a 9mm Luger caliber. Also check the barrel length on the first (make sure the gun is empty with the action closed, then place a pencil in the muzzle until it stops against the breech fast, measure the depth it went into the barrel, should be around 3 & 3/4" and second weapon will have a 4" barrel. The first one in 95% condition if all matching (and original matching parts, not restamped, including hold open and firing pin) would be worth $800-$1000. I would imagine there is a mismatched part on it or the seller doesnt know what he has.

I'm fairly sure it is all matching less mag., but if it isn't do you think I should pass on this one?

Grab em' both, the parts alone are worth more than that!!

Certainly would, for that price you can't go wrong ! I'll take them if you're not interested.

Sorry guys. I called him this morning to grab the commercial and he sold them both for cash in hand last night(I was getting the info from him saturday morning). Dang my luck <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
