WARNING NOTICE about Photopoint.com

Photopoint.com has been a FREE place to post personal graphic images that you can link to so you can display an image with your posts here on the Lugerforum. Well no more! Now that they have you depending on them, they intend to set the hook and charge you for the privilege. I guess forcing you to look at advertising wasn't enough for them...

I just received notice from Photopoint that effective mid-May they will no longer be a FREE service. What this means is that any photos currently linked there to posts on this forum will disappear if you don't sign up for an annual subscription.

If you have photo images stored there and nowhere else, you might want to download them before they are lost forever.

Re: WARNING NOTICE about Photopoint.com

Anyone familiar with Honesty.com ? They are supposed to be a free picture hosting service. I am telling Photopoint to take their site and SHOVEIT

thanks for the recommendation for Honesty.com Hugh!

I will move my stuff there as soon as I am sure they are a free hosting location.

the only thing that bothers me about "Honesty.com" is...

in the TOS read this: "5.4 By entering into this Agreement and providing Your Materials to ANDALE, you grant ANDALE a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicenseable (through multiple tiers) right (including a waiver of any applicable moral rights) to exercise the copyright and publicity rights you have in Your Materials, in any existing or future media now known or not currently known,....."

Blah. Blah. Blah. More legal stuff...

Have a great photo? Terrific - post it there - and you don't own it any longer - nor control its use. They can use your stuff - without permission - and sell them as "Clip Art", bind them in a book and sell them, well - do whatever...

"Honesty.com" seems a strnge name for such a site - huh??

Just MHO...

Re: That's enough for :( ...

Actually, the more we proliferate the beauty of the Luger (as in royalty free clip art, etc) the better..unless I am really missing something (and if I am I know someone will not so gently remind me). hmmmm..why wouldn't I want someone using pics of my firearms..maybe if I was getting ready to publish a book..well, maybe..nah!

Another Site

http://www.webshots.com/

Is another free web hosting site. For now.

Make no mistake, the days of the "free" internet are coming to a close.

Photopoint

I got a warning mail from Photopoint as well, but didn´t they say that accounts with 10 images or less were considered as "trial" memberships and would still be free?

Still, one would have to add n´ delete regularly. Very inconvenient. Yahoo! also has a free image hosting service if you sign up for a free email address. I have tried it and I am not very impressed with it, however. Every then and now "the service is unavailable" and so on...
