Help with a Luger Carbine
 

Guys,
I have the opportunity to purchase a rather nice Luger Carbine here down under. This gun, while not complete,ie: it is missing the stock, has been down under for many years.
I believe it is a 1920 carbine. It is identical to the one shown on page 189 of John Kenyons book, Luger at Random. The description matches. Kenyon says that only a few were made. Can anyone enlighten me futher. Secondly, does any one know whom could make me a stock for the gun if you all convince me to buy it.

Jan, There has been a pretty nice repro carbine stock on eBay recently. I think someone is making them and perodically offering them as new made.

Not that it's any of my business but what do carbines cost down under?

I believe this carbine was made around 1920.
About 90% original blue all over with straw a bit discolored due to use. Bore good. I believe it is original.I have known of it's existence here for about 10 years but only recently had the opportunity to purchase. Price is not yet decided but will be around NZ$18,000 which is about US$9000. Thanks for the information on the stock. By the way, can you make a boot for a Artillery Luger stock, One of my guns has the holster and board stock with most of the leather but the boost that fits over the stock attachment clip is missing. Murray, Sounds about the same here in the U.S.

Yes, I make double thickness artillery boots, just like the Germans, Hand stitched with linen thread. The steel rivets are hand hammered on. The early boot was the same only they stitched where the rivets are. Let me know and I will send you some photo's. Jerry Burney

Mr. John Martz still makes nice custom lugers in the Lincoln, CA area. I am not sure who does his wood-work, but he might be able to get you in touch with his craftsman who does his grips and stock work...

p.s. I saw a 1920 carbine and stock (original) go for a bit over $ 9,500.00 at the Reno gun show in April of this year...

Care and caution are advised with Luger carbines, at least in the US; I knew a guy who made quite a few of them and his name was not Georg Luger.
