1920 Commercial DWM Question
Several months ago Jan Still published a long list of Imperial military Lugers and described the "halo" or "frosting" on the barrel serial numbers. It seems that this effect is uniformly found on WW-I DWM military Lugers if they have not been reblued.
An extension of this question: Does the same hold true for 1920 DWM Commercial Lugers? Put another way, does the absence of the "frosting" or "halo" around the barrel SN (on a 1920 DWM Commercial) imply that the gun has been reblued? Thanks for your comments. Luke |
Hey Luke,
Good query... Unfortunately, both of my 1920's shooters have been rebarreled... :( But in the For Sale section, Thor has posted some nice photos of a 1923 Commercial (aka 5-digit DWM, if you follow the Still terminology...) that displays the halo on the barrel SN. Thanks for the comment, Pete.
Picture #7 in Thor's list shows the halo or frosting clearly. Luke |
