New Erfurt Acquisition

Just took delivery of a very interestng Erfurt, a late-war gun with chamber date 1917/18 (see "Imperial Lugers", p.78). Its in pretty good shape, has lots of interesting markings and characteristics.

I intend to profile it on the Forum, will probably not be able to get to it for a couple of weeks, but just had to brag on it for a minute.

Dwight, I was just looking at that pistol the other day. Thinking how neat it would be to come across one. Is there any indication of how many may have been marked this way?

I know of three, no way to predict.

Hi Dwight,

For others that may not have the Still book mentioned, could you explain the "1917/18" chamber date...and how it is different than a regular double-dated luger such as "1917/1920"...?

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete, from my understand, although Dwight can instill more knowledge, the 1917/18 shows that it eitehr was a 1917, but issued in 1918 and thuse double stamped or went back to the factory for repair.

Please correct me if I am wrong,

Ed

Ed You have dislexic buttons. According to Imperial Lugers. The pistol is stamped 1917 for year of manufacture. However, some were not assembled until 1918. Therefore an order was issued to stamp them 1917/18. Jan Still says that (at the time of printing) only one example is known. As Dwight has posted. He knows of 3 in exsistance to date. I wish I had the third one.
