Gothic "S" (Fraktur) S/42 Marked Toggle

My Russian-capture, forced-matched VOPO import (from AIM) is dated 1938 but has a forced matched toggle (link) marked "S/42". The letter "S" is not a normal S but the curvy German Fraktur "S."

I thought this different type of "S" was significant, but some "experts" at a gunshow recently told me that it doesn't mean anything special.

Can someone give me the real lowdown on what models and years the Gothic (Fraktur) "S" was used on the S/42 Luger?

In my opinion the Fraktur-S was only used in 1934 on K-date lugers. I think (that's only my opinion) that your toggle is not matching to the 1938-gun.

The Fraktur "S" toggle link is forced matched to my Luger. It has an original serial number and a second (added) number that matches my 1938 frame S.N.

If the Gothic "S" was only used in K-dated 1934 Lugers -- and no other year -- then it does have some significance.

Not that it makes my Luger more valuable and I'm not saying that it does -- only wondering about the use of the Fraktur "S".
