Need Help with Mag ID

Just bought an Imperial Luger with an excellent magazine, but the wood bottom has been notched and has an unusual suffix. The suffix appears to be an upper case "T" but I thought only lower case was used for this purpose. Can anyone identify?

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,
I am on the road and thus away from my reference materials, but I believe the mark to be a sutterlin (Sp?) character. I thought there was a depiction of these somewhere on the forum, but I can't seem to find it.

Hi Luke, if you look carefully, there is a nonsymmetry between the right and left sides of the top cross. Could it possibly be a heavy strike and consequent wear of the letter "r"?? According to Jan Still (Page 15 Imperial Lugers) 1917 and 1918, both Erfurt and DWM produced pistols at least into the R-Block and some higher. My guess, since it doesn't have the Erfurt stamp, is that it's a DWM. :)

Luke, I agree with Frank, that your repaired DWM military mag bottom has a strongly struck "r" suffix, that shows the top edge of the die. Perhaps, that's why the bottom eventually cracked. TH

Thanks for the information. The character is deeply struck.

After looking at it under high magnification and looking at the "r" on posted on the board, I suspect that it is, indeed, a lower case "r" which is somewhat distorted by the depth of the strike.

Luke
